1200 DVT Best Outdoor Cover?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Martyn850, Jan 23, 2019.

  1. I’ll be moving next month and I’ll be loosing my garage. What’s the best outdoor cover people use for the Multistrada? It’ll probably be garaged during the winter at my parents, but want something hard wearing. I’ve had the Oxford Aquatex on previous bikes but probably a bit thin for the Multistrada.

  2. I used an Oxford Stormtex on my 748. For the most part it did a good job, thicker and more durable than the Aquatex but even though it has vents in it condensation did still build up inside and we all know how much Ducati bolts and fasteners like condensation :(.

If you have enough space and it's off-road I'd look at one of those bike shelter thingies so that the material keeping the elements off never actually touches the bike thus allowing any condensation to evaporate asap.

  3. I use an R&G Adventure cover for my 1260. It fits well and is reasonably hard wearing. Though this is the 2nd one as the first (fitted my MV Turismo) only lasted about three years as at my previous house it was in a very exposed position and got both sunshine and fairly frequent strong wind and rain. It didn't tear but the seams, which have a sewn on outer fabric tape, became worn and porous. I expect the current one to last considerably longer as it's in a sheltered position.

No issues with corrosion due to condensation but I do have my bikes professionally ACF50 treated. Fit is good with panniers fitted (saves having to store them in my tiny cottage) or without and covers virtually down to the ground on the front wheel and about 6" off the ground on the back wheel.

Due to the exposed position and subsequent wind movement at my old house the MV had a little rubbing wear on the painted grab rail, nothing else. Though where it is now I don't expect this to happen with the Mutley.

  4. Yeah I did think about one of the bike shed type things but although the drive had space for three cars it just wouldn’t be in the aesthetic keeping of the property having one on the drive! And unfortunately I can’t get round the back where there’s s garage sized shed which would have been ideal!

  5. Cheers, I’ll take a look at the R&G one:upyeah:

  6. I've been using one of these for a few years:

Used to use it when I lived in a flat, and the multi lived in a communal garage. Bought it because it was sturdy thick fabric, and was large enough to fit over a big bike.

Nowadays I have my own garage, but it gets used when I'm at my girlfriend's place. It's heavy enough that it doesn't get blown off. Useful having the window for a solar charger, although I no longer use that. Has a loop to fit a chain through, and comes with a strap to fit under the bike.

Mine is still in pretty good shape, considering the use it's had. And it's always kept the bike dry.

  7. I’ve been using a JDC cover ( purchased on a well known auction site ) £23.99 and in my humble opinion is far superior to my previous oxford products ! It has a pull tie around the bottom of it which stops the cover from riding up and a clip around the middle to secure the sides . Definitely waterproof and good quality
