Not necessarily Ducati related so please feel free to move the post if necessary ET/Rob . Just acquired an old Gixxer with the pictured swinger (Metmachex i believe?) attached, it is identical as shown on both sides , it is not split with a pinch bolt ,and only has the two cap screws and spindle ends on each side...does anyone know how to adjust the chain/remove wheel with this item in situ?....ta as always.
Isn't the spindle in a concentric ? I would imagine you loosen the 2 caps and maybe the spindle and rotate it in the housing..
The spindle should be Square into the concentric so they turn together - but I’ve seen some that aren’t so make sure both turn...
Loosen the two cap heads on each side, loosen the axle in on the other side and then with a spanner on the hex in view, turn to adjust the tension. The axle is keyed into the eccentric on the las and if all is well, both sides turn together. If not, strip it down, clean and grease. It’s a simple but clever little assembly, but it needs maintaining to work corrctly.
Thanks for the replies, when taking the spindle out to remove the wheel, after removing the spindle nut should it just tap through or is it threaded into the swinger?
Took the rear wheel out this afternoon to have a new tyre fitted, and the spindle does indeed tap through ,the left side of the spindle has a woodruff type key that slots into a keyway on the concentric housing on that side, the right hand side has me a bit baffled though ...there is a wide flat on the righthand end of the spindle but as far as i can see there is no corresponding flat in the bore of the right hand concentric housing and it just pushes through and is tightened with spindle nut as normal...when turning the left hand keyed end of the spindle (after loosening the two capscrews on each side and the spindle nut) it should tension/loosen the chain,i'll have a better look tomorrow, it was getting too dark to make assumptions today!
