Best Crash Helmet

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Steviegtr, Feb 12, 2019.

  1. Ok I am sure this has been done before somewhere & ELTORO might move the thread or Dustbin mad Ducbird,, joke. Might. What is the best helmet you have found for the Multistrada. I will start with mine. Bought the 1200s in 2017 new. Bought a Shoei Quest full face. Lovely helmet but did not suit me as I like to stop now & then for a fag or to put new chewing gum in, dry mouth condition I have. So I trolled the net & the best flip helmet was advertised as the Schuberth C3 C4 range. So I paid an arm & a leg for a C3. Not pro. Pile of crap. Supposed to be the quietest flip helmet available. I am an old codger so guess my hearing is not as good as some but I have to make sure my ear plugs are well planted or I am nearly deaf when I get home. Any input here. ear haha.

  2. I’ve not had that many over the years, but my Schubert C3 pro is by far the best I’ve owned. It’s quiet, very plush and fits well. It doesn’t leak or steam up and the Bluetooth collar works well. The fact it’s a flip front furthers it’s appeal. I chose a matt- earthy green finish because it looks cool.
The French company Roof have some interesting designs.

  3. Shock neotec are a lovely. Expensive though.

  4. Does the Multistrada have a helmet? On my Supersport I wear the helmet and that is a Schuberth C3 pro, but that helmet does not give a $hit what bike I am riding. :)

  5. If your helmet is not really lightweight - its simply too heavy! After switching to carbon fibre, I will never own a heavy helmet again. The difference is incredible.

  6. Shoei GT Air. Quiet helmet for using with Multi. Others I tried were just too noisy.

  7. Shoei GT Air. Relatively new convert to Shoei, well on my 2nd over 5 or so years, but was a died in the wool Arai wearer (over 20+ years) until I tired the GT Air. Is it quiet..? no helmet really is so I wear decent ear plugs anyway. My hearing is already not great due to years of riding before ear plugs became the norm. Stable, OK ventilation (though the screen does cut that down quite a bit), comfortable, light and, importantly as a former Arai user, the visor mechanism works and seals well.

  8. Anything from a RX7GP/GT AIR/Carbon Nexx they all work. I am too busy riding the bike and not worrying about how noisy they might be compared to each other. My bike is noisy and I listen to music. :upyeah:

  9. Ride mine most the time with a sharp evoline3 open-face mode. Wearing ear-plugs or listening to music, hoping that sharp will do a proper model in full carbon at some stage.

  10. Thread moved

  11. You're supposed to do that anyway

  12. Agreed - on my second and can confirm they do well as actual “Crash” Helmets. The new models better riding with the flip up apparently.

Check out the new carbon agv flip front for a similar price, I have a gt Veloce (or something like that) from a few years ago and that’s pretty good as well, superlight butvthe field of vision doesn’t suit the multi mirrors as much as the shoei. I am 5’11 so YMMV.

  13. I would have thought the best lid would have been based on the shape of your noggin rather than the bike you're sitting on?.

Generally I've found arai too short in length but agv and shoei with shoei being rated higher, suits my needs.

  14. The Shoei suits my head shape and have worn the X-Spirit through all its reincarnations. When I decided to train as an IAM Roadsmart observer, a helmet best suited to riding a superbike didn’t work so I looked at a number of alternatives. In the end, I found the Shoei Neotec II the most comfortable of the flip front helmets and got an absolute stonking deal from Helmet City which included the integrated Sena comms. The Neotec is not as well built as the X-Spirit nor is it as quiet as the X-Spirit but it’s a very good helmet for riding the Multistrada. Yes I wear ear plugs (mainly due to historical hearing loss) but the Sena works really well and I have found the ability to talk to a rider ahead of me invaluable for making progress in traffic. 15. Favourite hats...
    1. Arai RX7v - very comfy and plush, easy to live with, beautifully made, looks a bit Lego.
    2. AGV Pista - very comfy, very light, bit noisy, flows air brilliantly, no room for Sena, I love the look of it too.
    3. Arai Tour X4 - very comfy, bit heavy, not too noisy, good for warm weather, peak is great for deflecting sun, less said about visor-system the better.
    4. AGV Sport Modular - very comfy, quiet, light, don't have to remove hat at passport control, Sena mounting is a bit tricky compared to others because of drop down sunglasses controller.

  16. That is not down to the helmet, but down to the guy checking the passports.

  17. Maybe, but I've never managed to get away with it yet at the UK borders. Juggling helmet, paperwork and inching forwards became a faff that could be sorted with a flip-up. Plus am looking forward to enjoying open face in southern European cities when typically a full-face becomes a bit warm! :)

  18. I must have a dodgy left ear because many times I have to stop & refit the plug. Did find some last year that seem a lot better, more rigid so fingers crossed. Know a couple of guys who had the moulded ones, done at motor show. Think they were £60. Dear anyway, 2 love them 1 lad says they are useless. Anyone tried them.

  19. I come into Poole and Portsmouth on my bike every now and then and have the C3 flip front. Every time they have asked me to take my helmet off. I now make sure that I turn the engine off and dismount before removing helmet, it holds everything up for a bit, but is my little protest.
Because I live in a warm place, I make sure that I only buy a white or a silver helmet in the hope that the temperature inside it does not get too hot when stationary.

  20. Nah, what you need is a good matt black carbon helmet! Preferably with Italian stripes!!! Tricolore, forza!!!!
