Oil Pressure Switch Weep

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by wadesnj, Feb 15, 2019.

  1. I'm assuming that this is just the switch unit failing and allowing a weep of oil up on to the cable and then down the case? I did check that it was tight. I see on here that several people have had to replace them. The bike has done less than 10k miles. Ignore the filler being off, I was just adding a drop. IMG_20190112_131927.jpg

  2. Yep That’s how they usually go

  3. Great, thanks for confirming. I'll call Snells tomorrow to order a new switch and gasket. Cheers.

  4. Any one used one of these Non genuine "pattern" switches? Is it worth it to save a tenner, or a false economy? Going to buy OEM, just interested. No gasket/washer listed either, which I would also replace. Screenshot_20190215-230715.png

  5. Vauxhall Agila one fitted to my 999. Cheap as chips off eBay.

  6. That very nice man, @antonye (www.avantiraceparts.co.uk) sends me oil pressure senders when I ask him.
He also sends me flowers and chocolates.

Ask him about flowers, chocolates (and race parts, I gather - who knew?).

  7. I used a cheap one from the motor factors, probably made by the same people who supply Ducati, but at about a tenth of the price. If memory serves me right it is an M10x1 thread so any switch with that thread will fit.

  8. ... and the same electrical connection. The older switches from the '90s were the same but had a 1/4" blade terminal, same as VW Polo.

  9. Ducati Alton want £27.20+VAT (and 10 quid postage) for the genuine one, have you got a link to a suitable one with the same electrical connector?

  10. Don't you have a local motor factors?

  11. One tenth of the price was spot on, £2.45 including vat and postage, £27.20 plus vat and £10 postage from Ducati Alton! Can't blame them for trying.....

  12. £27.20 is what you'd expect from a main dealer but £10 postage!

  13. Yes, it appears that they use DPD 24 hour at £9.17 + VAT, when Royal Mail first class would be a fraction of this, or free postage on Ebay!

  14. To be fair to Ducati Alton, the postage quote did include the oil pressure switch, a washer, and a pair of handlebar grips! Going to get Pro Grips from M&P instead of OEM, they were £25 plus vat as well.

  15. This is the ebay switch I bought.

  16. Old-thread resurrected...
I'm going to replace my (probably) faulty Hyper939 oil-pressure switch and want to know if anyone knows the switching pressure so I can search for compatible parts. Derek's post shows the Vauxhall part but no data. I'm replacing part 53940302A.
