Nuts !! ( and bolts )

  1. Hi all
Like most i looking to pimp my ride with some Alloy and Titanium goodness. Problem is Pro Bolts and Tasty Nuts done`t cover my model ( Monster 1100 evo ).
Does anyone know what parts of the Monster are the some as other Ducati`s. eg, sprocket nuts, caliper bolts, disc bolts, etc, etc.
I think the swing arm for example is the same as Hypermotard or smaller supersports like 848.

    Ta Muchly

  2. Im sure they do but they prob just havent been bothered to make up kits.

If you know the spec of each nut and bolt (actually very easy) then you could just order individually.

Not so easy if you were planning on doing the engine....

Simple process of remove bolt, measure and order.

  3. I can measure the dia but what about the thread pitch or are they all pretty much standard on Ducati`s ?

  4. Once you have done a few you will get to grips with it and see how simple it is.

Pro-bolt do a pro-gauge if you wanted to go to town but its really just a ruler with holes and thread pitches.

As a rule of thumb engine casing bolts and general fasteners tend to be m6, caliper bolts (rear) M8 and Fronts can be M10's. Different bolts on different bikes obviously.

So, once you understand the bolt diameter, measure the length of the bolt from the base of the head (not the end) to get the length. Then all you need is the pitch (thread). Get an accurate ruler and measure the distance between the threads. Take tour time with this but you will see that most bolts tend to have a similar pitch, and you can soon see which ones then have a finer or larger pitch.

As a cross check I count 5 or ten threads against the ruler and count the mm. That way if you count 10 threads and it measures 7.5mm it has a pitch of 0.75mm (fine thread), will measure 10mm if it has a pitch of 1mm, 12mm if it has a pitch of 1.25mm etc, etc.

Its really easy, just take your time.

Probolt pro-gauge vid here to show what im on about but honestly, just use a ruler and common sense:

Ive just replaced caliper pinch & mount bolts that they havent done a kit for etc and they do all sorts of head patterns. I like socket cap bolts over the flanged hex bolts any day of the week but dont get carried away with Ti. Some times its just as good but way cheaper to go down the stainless route and its way cheaper.

Saying that, I have Ti bleed nipples..... WHY? Because they were a bargain

Let us know how you get on.

Oh and the pitch of different types of bolts does vary so dont assume, measure.

  5. Cheers for that. Feels like ive now got a degree in engineering . Shall have a look tonight.

I have been known in the past to strip an engine and put it back together and run ( mostly!!! ) but havent paid any attenion to the tec bits, 12" monkey wrench and lump hammer are my most used tools .

  6. Think ive left myself open to some rude tool jokes here :smile:
