899 Service Or Not To Service?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Cake, Oct 3, 2018.

  1. my annual service is due but the bike has only done 160 miles since last year.

Im not sure how long i am going to be keeping it, so would skipping one due to the negligible milage affect resale or not?

£250 seems steep for a stamp...

Will service myself to show annual servicing with reciepts.

Bike is stored indoors and no danger of moisture.

  2. Personally I would get it done, if you don't it only gives potential buyers something to barter you down with when trying to negotiate a deal.

Ready to rock with fresh service, long M.O.T and plenty of meat left on the tires should give buyers a bit of confidence that it has had a health check, unlikely to require anything immediately following purchase and is all ready to be enjoyed...

  3. Meh - i wouldnt....id say as long as the engine is turned over every month (with a short ride) then thats good enough...

  4. Sell it if you only do 160 miles a year

  5. Thanks i think im on these same lines too so think i will just take the hit.

  6. What a great answer - So why did i only do 160 miles this year on this bike and 5.5k the year before...

  7. I had a similar dilemma as I could have serviced mine myself for about £60. My bike was in for the M/C recall about 2 months ago so plugged up to the computer at the time and checked for updates etc...
The reason I got the stamp is because of a few common failures on the bikes such as the dash clocks, quickshifter etc.. If you're hoping for any goodwill from Ducati on such parts I think a prerequisite is a stamped up Ducati service? I looked on the service as an "extended warranty" just in case. In a years time I may do my own work as it'll be four years old by then... So £250-300 might sound expensive for an oil/filter change and a check over but it could pay for itself further down the road?

  9. Had a Ducati dealer service on my 1299S a month out of warranty, and a month later the motor went bang. The only reason Ducati supplied the £8k of parts through goodwill is because I had continued main dealer servicing after the warranty. It was well worth the money in my case.

  10. If the bike is tidy & the overall mileage isn’t too high, personally I would take the hit and get it serviced (particularly if you are looking for a private sale).

You are likely to attract more buyers which in turn may give you a better return. Additionally, you won’t have the ‘should I have done’ thought in your head.

    Ultimately, a personal decision though.

  11. Hi got a 1299s and 15k desmo service due got a quite from a local ducati dealer for 1k is this not a rip off

  12. I think that £1k for a quite is very good, quites are becoming rare.

  16. Only Smarties have the answeeeeeeeer ....

  17. The question that followed from the OP... Keep up at the back!

  18. where did the op answer why he did 5.5k previously year and 160 miles this year....

  19. Not sure lol

  20. We haven't got that far yet, 'the answer' was the question the OP asked himself when complementing (having a dig) at the person who suggested he sell it if only doing 160 miles. I thought it was a valid suggestion!
