Getting it done next week, as usual, most important upgrade/adjustment to the bike in my eyes So very excited. Looking forward to see what they can get out of the Ohlins. The 2 main things that I have a gripe with is the front is fairly high, so would like that dropped and the rear raised. Maybe softer rear as well. Front seems ok'ish. What sort of setup do you guys go for?
Don't know about the 10' but the 848 benefits from backing the rear pre load off...A Lot...!! Unless yr a transatlantic fat buggy pilot! How much are they charging you? If you don't mind me asking?
Well, I am 6'2" and weigh no more than 11 stone... So yea, the pre load would be lowered haha. No idea how much, think it's £60 per hour rate sort of thing. Doubt I will be there more than 2 hours.
Chris While you are at it: Do discuss the angle of the clip on's with the 'setter upper'. When I had my suspension set up at Pro-twins, he asked me to feel whereabouts on my palms I felt the weight, it was only then that I realized that I was feeling it on the outside of my palms, so he removed the location pin that holds the bars in the factory decided angle, and made a small adjustment to the angle ( the bars were now more straight), the difference became apparent on longer rides when I noticed that I wasn't getting any more numbness occurring in my hands, as the weight was being spread more evenly across the width of the palm Imo the best money you can spend on a bike. I'm amazed how many bikers, who's bikes have hundreds of pounds of accessories on them, haven't had their suspension set up correctly!
Sound advice......i binned my OEM clip-on's and bought a set of Ligh-Tec ones, adjusted them a little and now they are much better. After a days riding it doesn't feel like someone has hit me in the hand with a hammer! lighter clutch slave cylinder also eased the pain!
Let me know what you think when they have finished. MR are my dealer as well so will be interested to see what they charge you. Regards Steve
Thanks for the sound advice guys, and yea, I have no idea why other riders neglect this minor costing but hugely improving tweak. It's not like a car, where you set the suspension for the road. Bikes are setting it for the rider and the way he rides. Pro Twins transformed my Ducati 748 last time. Hope Moto Rapido can do the same! As for the clip on's... Not thought about it, it's a good 45 mins of A33 and M3 ride to Moto Rapido, half and half of A road and motorway, so perfect chance before I get there to notice any pressure points. Booked in for next Thursday afternoon. Time can't come soon enough!
Setting up the suspension is the single most important thing to do to a bike when you get it. It can transform a bike from a pig's ear to a silk purse.....but to do it correctly isnt just twiddling screws. If you are serious it may invilve a rear shock spring change and fork spring/oil/air gap change....but even if you go to that expense its a very cheap performance mod....
Also, my stomp grips just arrived! So, chain and sprockets come off tonight, stomp grips on, new chain and sprockets on this weekend. Very excited.
I need to get mine done after years of not bothering.. Anyone know of a place in the Notts/Leics/Lincs borders?
K tech are close and will set it up for£ 30-40 notes they are very good. K-Tech Suspension, road race and offroad motorcyle suspension
I had mine done by k-tech at their open day last year and the difference is huge. It used to get upset by bumps and slightly rippled tarmac and now just glides over them like a dream. I still have to evaluate the performance on track but well worth every penny.
They had a special event last year and I think it was about 20 quid. Pretty sure its normally 40 notes. Give them a call, even at 40 quid its the best money you can spend next to tyres.
£40 is very good if so. The basic setup session with MCT, also highly rated, is £95+vat: MCT Suspension we service all make and models of front forks, rear shock absorbers, steering dampers for road and race and offroad motorcycles, suspension set-up options
Get it done lol they won't let you leave till you're happy with it , they even asked how much fuel I Normaly run in the tank!!.
Had mine done on my old bike by some local suspension zen master.... That was £40.00 cash bish bosh...
Having it done by Colin at 100% suspension at a trackday is £45 and you get to try every adjustment out after he's made it.
