V4 Electronic Suspension Static Sag Figures

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Android853sp, Feb 19, 2019.

  1. A question for the V4S/V4 Speciale riders. If you have adjusted your suspension, how much front and rear pre load are you using and how much front and rear static sag does that pre load setting give you ? Andy

  2. Using guidance from Dave Moss, I've got 6 full turns of pre load on the front. Rear shock now shows just one ring. Stock the front end was mush and I got pinged out of the seat on every bump. Post adjustment we have:

    Front sag 25mm
    Rear sag 12mm

Whacking up the preload on the front made a massive difference to front end confidence and turn in speed. (Nearly turned in too fast first time into Craner Curves with the Dave Moss settings!)

Suspension runs as custom static on track with:
    Fr Comp 6
    Fr Reb 5
    Rr Comp 15
    Rr Reb 14

I'm about 6' weighing about 15 stone with all my kit on. Top end of the intermediate group / lower end of the fast group depending on how I'm feeling and the relative strength of the field.

Adjustment was done in the summer and I've now done about 2000 miles, so I will recheck now the suspension is run in.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  3. That’s brilliant, thank you. I’m 6’4” and 17 stone so your settings are a good starting point for me as I do like a ‘soft’ setting. No substiture for learning to ride a bike in a muddy field :D Andy

  4. Interested to know how you sit on the bike. Due to longer legs, I feel a little spider like and too close to the tank most of the time. I think I might benefit from something that would keep me a little further back. Thinking about the Afix Moto tank cover with the extra extension. https://www.afixmoto.com/en/tankcover-ducati-panigale.html

  5. "Rear shock now shows just one ring."

  6. Hmm. Might be that I can't read my own notes, so I'll check the bike later. I know I had to back it off a lot to get some movement in it. Mine is a March 2018 bike, so one of the earlier ones.

  7. Aha, mines november 2018 - so may have different spring - mines 95nm..

  8. I have the Ducati performance seat which claims to be 20mm thicker and is flatter and more grippy than my fancy pants Speciale seat. I have yet to play with the adjustable Rizoma rear sets but I will be trying down one hole and forward one hole from the current position to open up my knee bend. I slackened off the rear pre load to about 1cm before having a quick 60 mile run out this afternoon and it made a huge difference. Definitely the way to go so thanks. The Afixmoto tank cover looks an interesting solution but not too sure how much difference 25mm would make (oo err missus).

  9. Vectorzero. Did you find the subscription to Dave Moss good value for the money? I got bounced right out of the seat down a fast backroad last Saturday, was going pretty fast overtaking a couple of BMs. When I got home, the forks had bottomed out according to my zip tie.

  10. For me it was a no brainer. His explanations make sense to me, and when I apply his recommendations the behaviour of the bike changes in the way he describes. Dave’s explanation of the voodoo that is suspension is worth every penny. In the words of the old Ronseal advert his website does exactly what it says on the tin.

  11. Sounds like money well spent then. Think I will subscribe. Cheers
