Ducati 848

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Karl740, Mar 5, 2019.

  1. Hello fellow Ducati lovers...

I’m in the process of purchasing a low mileage standard 848 and due to collect this weekend. Always wanted a Ducati sports bike and have finally bit the bullet and scratched the Ducati itch.

My first bike when I passed my test was a 620 Monster but that was 10 years ago now and I can’t remember an awful lot about it as I’ve a number of bikes since.

I am planning on doing a bit of road riding with the odd track day chucked in so would like to have a list of must do mods. I’ m thinking more of making the bike perform as best it can as well as making it easy and safe to ride as possible.

This is my first line of enquires so far so feel free to educate/correct me if I’m going the wrong way or missing something. Obviously I want to work within a reasonable budget so completely swapping out suspension for Ohlins etc is probably a stretch too far at the moment. To start with I’m considering the following:

    Clutch Slave
    Slipper Clutch
    Steering Damper
    14T sprocket conversion

My heads swimming with info at the moment with variations of the above so if anyone can share their experiences with me on brands/specs of products they used and the impacts they had I would be grateful.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. For me ... others may disagree but I would leave your 1st 3 choices for now and put the money to a decent rear shock and suspension setup. I fitted a ttx to mine and had the suspension setup, this was by far one of the best mods. The 14t front sprocket made a nice improvement. I have felt no need to change the clutch or slave, it suits me fine standard.

  3. Do you do track days with your 848? I’m thinking the slipper clutch might be needed for that more than the road as I don’t fancy the the rear end hopping going into corners. I’ve had that happen once on my zx6r and I don’t like it.

  4. ive got a db screen and some grippy foot pegs for sale if your interested mate?? @Karl740

is your 848 an evo?? if so ive got a hyperpro steering damper too.

  5. its a standard 848, is there any steering dampers that would fit straight on or do all require a mod of some sort?

  6. standard 848s need a bracket for a damper to fit.

  7. I put a super pole seat on mine made it much better to ride the standard one just has your nuts squashed on the tank all the time, it’s good if you’re tall to as it is a bit higher. Also a set of updated battery cables which were supplied by Exige on here made a huge improvement to starting the bike :upyeah:

  8. Rear ride height adjuster

  9. Are the battery cables a fairly straight forward swap or are they awkward to get at?

The rear ride adjuster, without sounding stupid what are the benefits in being able to adjust the rear height, ie what’s wrong with the stock height?

  10. Battery cables were fairly straight forward as I remember come with really clear instructions and photos step by step

  11. Welcome Dave and thread moved

  12. No I dont/havn’t tracked it, although I guess the clutch could be a good shout for that, someone else would be better to answer that. Even so, I would IMO get the rear shock sorted. Hands down transformed the bike for me with the suspension setup. The seat change and upgraded battery cables a good shout too :upyeah: I also had the exhaust servo and O2 semsors removed and the ecu re flashed, this also makes the bike run just that bit ‘nicer’ :upyeah:

  16. Welcome to the forum. :)

  17. Get a quick-shifter for the track. Whatever you do to the suspension, get it properly set up for your weight. Check the age of the tyres, if they are > 3 years old, replace.
