Servicing Costs

  1. Hi guys, it is time to do a major service on my '11 Hypermotard 796 (w/ belts and valves) with 25k miles. I'm calling some independent mechanics to get a feel of prices and they seem to vary a lot - why?

Rosso Corse in London said over the phone it would be about £700, whilst Ducati Pro Team on Kent said it's a fixed price of around 460.

What's up with almost the £250 difference? Do you know these mechanic shops? Can you recommend me others? Do you recommend me taking the bike to a dealer? Do shops in this country also accept payment in two installments?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. It could be simply down to overheads but there is a wide varience between main dealers so I’m not surprised. Andy

  3. You could try MD Racing in walton on thames. See what they throw up.

  4. I can recommend Pro team. They were great when I used them

  5. @chizel uses ProTeam IIRC.

There is a chap down Southampton way called Paul(?) who is building a good rep, someone will be along with his name shortly (@Android853sp ?)

  6. Tis true... have been using pro team for 14 years now... good prices and great service...
Depending on location they do a pick up and drop off service too. Well used to, pretty sure they still do!!

  7. Yes, I know Ray Petty Meccanica quite well. Ray has done several major jobs for me on classics, and for friends likewise. Quality of work is very high, but also expensive. Does highly specialised jobs mainly in restoring and re-commissioning bevel Ducatis and MotoGuzzis of the 70s and 80s era.

A 2011 bike is a bit recent; I don't ask Ray to service moderns since they can be done more cheaply elsewhere.

  8. Mr Petty worked alongside Marcus at Rosso Corse.

I know who I would take my bike to..

  9. Who?

  10. For the op I would say go with Al at pro team.. very knowledgeable and honest as you like...does his best to save you spending a fortune.. a rarity. ..

  11. I'm seeing some good recommendations here. IllI give them all a call today.

Do you guys know how come there is such a massive difference in prices? The guys from Rosso Corse warned me on the phone of the shops that do it for £400 don't actually do what Ducati recommends, and that it is a minimum 8 hour job. Should I stay clear of the cheaper ones? Should I be wary of places that have a fixed fee like Pro Team? Do mechanic shops here take payment in two installments?

  12. I've never heard of a company that will allow you to pay half on collection and half at some point in the future!!
You could possibly pay half when you drop the bike off and half when you collect it.
You'll need to ask them the question really.

  13. Yeah - but, chatting to Rich at Louigi ages ago he said the same of Riders....they just follow the sheet - whereas Rich looks at the bike, how its been treated and what "actually" needs to be replaced. That way your not paying for stuff that you dont need...just the other side of the argument...

  14. After phoning all the suggestions you guys gave me, I have to go with Ducati Pro Team who will do it for around £460, more than £400 cheaper than some of the others.
