Best And Worst Bands You Have Seen Live

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Alan williams, Apr 2, 2019.

  1. Pretty good guess but the "crocs" crack ... to a guy who can arrange an airstrike on your position ... is a bold, bold move!

    : o D

  2. Sorry please accept my humble apologies, I understand I may have crossed the line with the crocs jibe!

Pretty close with rest though eh! :)

  3. Best? Way too many. Stand out gigs are

Radiohead at Glasto 96 (I think)
    Prodigy Brixton Academy
Oasis Knebworth, although the Manics and Charletons blew them away tbh
Orbital - way too many times to remember
The Orb at Glasto - way too much acid that night
    Pink Floyd earls court
The Jam in wembley arena 83. Got in free
Edwin Starr Dartford Orchid centre - mixed audience of 50% normals and 50% scooterists. Place was bouncing and normals appreciated the atmos we provided
Desmond Dekker - yarmouth (except bonehead stage infringement, Desmond was a legend that night)
The Cult Finsbury Park. Met Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy. Nice guys, despite the fact I'd bombed 2 grams of whizz.
    Mary Wells - Yarmouth
Hawkwind - Kilburn. They jammed for fucking hours, seriously fucking hours.

Ive never been to a bad gig.

Just been reminded of Ian Dury and Blockheads at Tigers Inn in Lee/Lewisham. Offchance gig mid 80's, they blew me away.

Lord Sutch at Red Lion Gravesend. Sutchy bought me a drink afterwards and chatted. What a really really nice guy he was. Fucking funny.

  4. Enjoyed 99% of all gigs I’ve bern to. Most surprisingly good gig was Rick Astley last year at Coco for Children in need, he’s not bad as a front man but he’s a bloody good drummer and to see him thrashing out Pretty Vacant brought a smile.
Worst recent gig was Blondie in Kew Gardens, leather basque, fish net tights and ‘fit flops’ really dont go and her voice terrible.

  5. Best;
Queen at Wembley stadium 12th july 1986.
Simple minds at Milton keynes bowl also summer 1986...backed by The Cult and the Waterboys, absolutely brilliant!

    Worse;
T'pau.....Birmingham NEC october 1987 absolute shite!

Seen quite a few others but these are the stand outs.

  6. Best live band / artist.
Stereophonics at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. They had just released Sex. Language. Violence. Other? and I didn't _get_ the album at all. Went along to that gig, small venue, very close to band, and they absolutely rocked it. Kelly Jones was supremely confident, but completely carried it off. Very impressive. Guitar work up close was amazing to see.

Lots of other fab gigs, but that one sticks out.

Also, I'll mention Taylor Swift at Manchester last summer with my daughter was excellent - my first stadium gig, and very impressive show.

Most disappointing / worst band or artist
Editors at Cambridge Corn Exchange. I was really in to them, but they had zero charisma, no engagement with audience whatsoever. It completely turned me off them, and I stopped listening to them for several years after that.

Most disappointing: The Last Shadow Puppets
I love the Arctic Monkeys, and so want Alex Turner to stay grounded, but he really hasn't :-(. Miles Kane just feels like an imposter, and is not a substitute for Alex Turner.

Also, what's this new thing where people go to gigs and talk all the way though them? I saw The Last Shadow Puppets at Alexandra Palace - tickets weren't cheap, and were hard to get. Most people just turned up late, and just stood around in groups getting drunk and chatting. Very little interest in the band. They also all left before the end. Got the distinct impression that Londoners are spoilt for entertainment, and just treated it like any other pub gig. Went along to say they'd been, didn't care about the cost.

I'm now focussing on smaller new bands at smaller venues, where people go to hear the music, and if they don't, it's not £70 wasted listening to them.

  9. I was at that stone temple pilots gig !
Scott weiland was incredible, venues don’t get much more atmospheric than the Brixton academy either !

  10. Worst - lightning seeds, Cardiff approx 1999, they were basically bood of stage
Best - any Morrissey gig I’ve been to ( there’s been quite a few.

  11. I guess the worst was Rolf Harris at Glasto. Shame as it was an epic gig, but that peado fucking ruined it later. The cunt.

    Did Glasto 93-98 inclusive.

  12. Gotta agree about brixton academy , saw the clash there in 82, bauhaus in 97 and the ramones on one of their last original line ups there , awsome venue !
    Puddy :)

  13. Worst, probably a toss up between Shakira and Shaggy at the Singapore F1 in 2011.

The best, loads of em really. The early Punk bands in Erics in Liverpool in the late 60'2 and 70's, Bowie on the Stage tour at Bingley Hall, ACDC, Slash & Myles Kennedy, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue on their last ever tour all spring to mind. Many more worth contenders as well.

  14. You wuz robbed, on stage about 2 1/2 hrs in Cardiff.

  15. My best are best for different reasons, the Rolling Stones in 1977 best because it was the Stones, Linkin Park because it was Chester singing, his last ever concert as it turned out, Thirty Seconds to Mars because he is a showman, Twentyone Pilots because it was a Spectacular! Don Broco was sheer energy. Worst? Don’t think I have seen a bad one.

  18. Snap! We saw them in Manchester, turned up 2 hours late, no apologises and nothing done to fill the gap, then had to finish because of the arena curfew. Axel had to keep hobbling off stage to inhale oxygen.
