Dropped A Bolt

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Boomshanka, Apr 7, 2019.

  1. Under the awesome advice of my new bike guru (you know who you are), i unscrewed the cap of the break fluid to release the rubber gasket that was being sucked downward, I then dropped one of the bolts over the handle bars, I have spend ages trying to find it but cannot, hoping in the morning I can break hard and itll drop out.

Can I gaffa tape the lid of the front break fluid lid closed? It seems pretty tight with just one bolt but if there is a need for pressure...?

And could the bolt potentially do any damage? Ive check best I can the radiator fans but cant feel it in there, not sure if anything else could be a problem?

    Thanks

  2. Have you got one of those magnetic pencil flexible jobbies

  3. No, but I have no idea where it is :( there seems to be a millions nooks and crannies.

  4. This is not helped bythe fact my new bike garage is just a wooden box with no lights yet so was working with my iphone torch, hence why I dropped it, but looking with all the shadows is tricky, I did manage to adjust the chain with it though so not all bad hehe

  6. Ok my fault I guess.... glad you decided to have a go at some tinkering, more than likely the bolt has fallen on top of the radiator, you need to run your fingers along the top to feel in the channel where it probably is, if not then it will fall out when the bike is moved, one screw holding the fluid cap on is fine for now until a replacement from a dealer can be found. Good job on doing the chain too.:upyeah::upyeah:

  7. I'd be wary of riding without the fluid cap securely sealed. Any leaks could potentially pay havoc with your paintwork.

  10. Thanks guys, all good advice, no bolt found yet, I rolled down the ramp from my garage and slammed the brakes on before starting the engine in hopes I would hear it drop, alas its a lord lucan bolt.

A head torch and a pickie uppie tool is in my near future for sure

  14. Nope! Dont think the legend could even find this little bugger, im going with hehe’s pie chart, I take some comfort in the fact that theres another me in the alternative dimension that dropped that same bolt but found two on the floor

  16. You'll forget all about this once it's replaced. Then in 2 years time you'll stumble across it in the middle of the floor and spend the next 3 weeks trying to find where it's fallen out from.

All of I could think of during the hour I had relost it was, will I admit this stupidity on the forum?
