Sfs Leaking Lower Radiator

Discussion in 'Streetfighter' started by BIG M, Apr 14, 2019.

  1. The lower radiator on my SFS has developed a leak. I can't quite locate where exactly it's coming from but the lower part of the grill is wet resulting in a slow drip. I'll probably look to just replacing it, the problem is finding one in black. I'm not paying the thick end of £600 for a genuine Ducati unit and have seen some Chinese radiators for sale on eBay. I've used Chinky rads in the past and been very impressed with them, but they are all in bare aluminium!. My OCD will never allow this. I could paint it but fear after a while the paint will start to chip and it'll end up looking a scabby mess. Does anyone know where I can find a black one for reasonable money? Cheers. :)

  2. It's usually the Upper that goes
If you can't find one get an alloy one and paint it with Smoothrite, bake it in the oven. It must be thoroughly degreased though, then cleaned with isopropanol - no finger prints, wear gloves!

  3. True, I've never know a lower to leak. Thanks for the advice, that's one for when the missus is out for the day!;)

  4. as above, apart from stone damage etc, a failure is unusual and I would be taking a close look at the hose endings and connections into the rad.
