Ducati 125 Frame Number

Discussion in 'Vintage' started by Becky, Apr 7, 2019.

  1. Hi all, my dad has purchased a Ducati frame from a bike jumble and is trying to determine which model it is, we've searched across the internet and found most sites only offer the 17 digit vin number lists whereas the one he has bought is: DM125C*130723*

Does anyone have any ideas or could point us in the right direction would be much appreciated!

    PS I think it is a 125cc

  5. Hi, you are correct that it is a 125cc from the frame number and whilst it is not always 100% reliable, the DM indicates that it is probably an Italian manufactured bike (Ducati Motore) as opposed to the Spanish Motortrans version, that was manufactured under license (Motortrans Ducati), whose numbers started unsurprisingly with MD!

You really want to joint the Motoscrubs forum which is dedicated to Ducati single cylinder bikes, as there is a wealth of knowledgeable and helpful guys on there that will undoubtedly be able to help you identify it exactly.

    http://www.motoscrubs.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3

Many of the guys in there are based in the US where many of these bikes were exported to, but there are a fair few guys from the UK and Europe on there too, including the well respected UK based, Ducati singles expert and spares dealer Nigel Lacey (www.laceyducati.co.uk).

Nigel has been racing and restoring these bikes for over 30 years and is very free with his hard earned knowledge and experience and at some point your Dad will almost certainly buy bits for his restoration from him!

    Hope this helps :)

  7. There is also a very good book called Ducati Singles by mick walker that would be worth a buy and read.
This will give a great deal of info regarding rebuilding it, plus lots of pictures to maybe help identify the frame, and any bits you may need to buy.
