Not Another St Project!!

Poor old, slightly neglected ST4S ready for a little TLC.

Not sure what to do with it yet apart from a full strip and rebuild of the engine and running gear. After that we will see.

Nothing is happening until some customer projects are done - so plenty of thinking time!!

  2. Jeez. How could anyone let a good bike get into that state? Best of luck with your project, I'm sure it will be a good one.

  3. I feel slightly ill!

Although, to be fair, the engine paint looks better than mine.

  4. Very intersting....
I take place in my sofa with popcorns.
The St is a great bike at good price this days, I have bought one more ST4S, but that unit to is to stay as it is for daily use.

  5. Some minor progress - now just a rolling chassis (dirty).

    Job one - clean stuff.

  8. Day of cleaning! Boy did it need it. Lost about a kg of weight with just grime, chain lube and other detritus.

One box with clean parts that will be reused and one box of part probably not going to be used.

Engine still needs to be finished but that will be a few minutes tomorrow before the fun starts. Paint is surprisingly good underneath the mess!

  9. More bits removed, more cleaning.

Oh and a bit of frame removed.

Untill some parts arrive there will be little else done to the frame.

Off to tidy up (ie remove surplus) loom over the next few days.

  12. Loom pegged out ready for slimming down.

21kg permanently removed from the bike to date. Remembering it was not exactly complete at the start of the project. IMG_20190417_153741.jpg

  13. Looking good so far, but there are probably a few kilo’s to go back onto it?

  15. Agreed some parts to be returned but haven't weighed them.

Other parts not weighed yet include

    Lightened engine internals.
Standard fairing panels compared with bodywork going on.
    Standard battery compared with lithium.
Standard headers and endcans all to be replaced.

On balance probably another 20kg there.

    All part of the fun.

  16. Nice but I'm after a different look.

What's more the 851 in the garage may get jealous and I don't want that!!

  17. Not much progress between race meetings, track days and work but some parts are arriving.

Some mocking up done to test the fit of the replacement fairing and how it might work with the standard tank. Still not sure about the tank but happy with the fairing.

  18. Will the clip-ons clear the fairing on lock to lock?
Looks like the fairings need lifting

  19. They will be engineered to clear. Thanks for the observation though.

  20. You had me thinking - so before any further progress a quick double check with fairing in final position.

Old clip on fitted for clearance check.

Turns out the old intuition was not to far away. This with the full ST lock still available.
