Fairing Screws

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by Mr-Superlight, Apr 20, 2019.

  1. Over the winter I seemed to have mislaid a couple of the fairing screws from my '96 SL, the ones that connect the side fairing with the nose fairing close to the indicators. They may turn up when I do a more thorough search of my garage but they may well have disappeared under the furthese bench.
I'm pretty sure that I can get these from Glasgow Ducati - they are listed on stein dinse as part 77910891B at only 0.62E - but I wonder if there is an alternative that I can get elsewhere locally? Maybe other manufacturers use the same bolt ?

  2. I have an ss and that has alloy pro bolt fasteners on the fairing, on mine those front ones are m6 with a nice big dome head and weigh nothing.

  3. I know that I could get a complete kit but as I only lack 1 of them I'd rather get something that looks original as opposed to the alloy or stainless ones.

  4. I see, I've just looked, I have spares of the others but not the ones you need
Someone must have one nocking about.

  5. I’d be interested to know if/where you source these too Mr Superlight. Ducati Glasgow is my nearest port of call also. I need a full set of brackets and fasteners as I’ve got full side panels now to change about with my half fairing but don’t have the required bits to keep them in place.

  6. Stein Dinse will have what you require.

  7. I know that Stein Dinse list them but as I've not had a chance to other dealers (I've a Honda and BMW fairly local to me) I will probably see if Ducati Glasgow can get them for me. I've actually got a part on order with them already (tank catch I stupidly bust) so if they can get them I'll have these added to that item. They charged about £21 inc postage for the catch so pretty much the same as Stein would charge including postage.

  8. I only mention them as they can supply parts that are sometimes not availble through the main dealer. Since Harry has left I dont really like giving Ducati Glasgow my business, the parts dept are currently nowhere near as competent as what he was. It seems they have little or no knowledge of the older bikes

  9. Y, Harry was great but they were fine when I went in and if I can add these without incurring extra charge for posting then they are prob the best bet.

  10. Stein Dinse do charge quite a lot for postage

  11. I'd order from them if required but for a part costing £0.50 the postage probably is more than the item cost.

  12. Yes I found the same. As they’re my local dealer I’d like to give them the business however when I went to get some parts from there last year I was met firstly with a blank look then a half hearted attempt to find it only to be told ‘not available’. Got what I needed from Moto Rapido. Good service and genuine Ducati parts ‘still available’.

  13. It's a shame that you put it that way, as we do our best to support our local customers so of course we would appreciate as much support back as we can.

This is the problem with a small business such as ours losing a key staff member with vast experience, their shoes are always going to be difficult (if not impossible) to fill.

Harry was the only Ducati parts man in our country, we have had to create a new parts expert since he left. There are no other places you will find a Ducati parts man up here. There is no training course, no academy, no factory back up, in fact no other way of learning what bike needs what part until you search through the system and millions of parts available - you start from scratch and it takes years to learn the hundreds of models that we can get parts for. Whoever walked in Harry's footprints was always going to have a hard act to follow but Iain is doing a great job under extreme pressure.

With respect, I think you should give him the chance to learn, it's no easy task.

  14. Fwiw it's very difficult to find any alternative to OEM Ducati that is as good. I went through all the obvious alternatives when kitting out the Panigale as I was swapping road to track fairings a lot in the first few years and nothing compared. I ended up spending several hundred pounds on a full set of spare bolts and other related parts. I still have most of them sitting on the shelf but I would always buy OEM straight away in the future. One other thing worth mentioning is that the brass colour DSUS clips from the (916?) models are expensive but lovely fittings and well worth using if you are putting track fairings on.

  15. Martin, I appreciate you speaking up on behalf of your new parts guy Iain, I understand how difficult it must be finding someone to take over from Harry. Harry was one of the main reasons I popped into Ducati Glasgow, he was in particular knowledgeable about my main bike, a 1993 Supersport. I learnt a lot from him in the early days of ownership and the bike now has some of its modifications because of discussions I had with him. As far as I am concerned you will never be able to replace Harry, you can only find someone to do his job who, one day may be as knowledgeable. I dont visit Ducati Glasgow very often now, but will still pop in from time to time. Its actually easier for me to order parts from places like Stein Dinse, cause generally I know what I am looking for and can get the parts micro fiche on their website. You have lost a true character in Harry, not just a brilliant parts guy.

  16. Placed order for 2 bolts today from Ducati Glasgow over the phone - they are in stock so I should have them in a couple of days.

  17. Did you give them the part number?

  18. So true. I worked with him every day for 16 years. It was not my wish that he decided to leave.

But following some extreme loss he experienced in his private life; it became clear to him he needed a change and what seems like a position that was less stressful. We’re still in touch every now and again and you never know he may return one day.

  19. I did mention the part number that I believed, according to the parts diagram on Stein Dinse, to be the correct one (77910891B) but their parts diagram seemed unclear, maybe in combination with my attempt at explaining what the bolt was, meant that it took a couple of minutes to suss out but we got there in the end.
The tank catch that I'd ordered in person when I was passing just under a week ago and I'd hoped to just add this new order to, actually came in early and has already been posted out to me which came as a surprise!

  20. I dont know the circumstances of his leaving, its sad to hear that it was personal loss.
