Tight Bearings

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Duncs, May 1, 2019.

  1. The front wheel bearings on my 2010 Multistrada 1200 feel really tight. Its really hard to move them. I think they are gone but not sure, there's no scoring on the axle. They should move freely and smoothly by hand right?

  2. I,m assuming wheel is off and you are trying to move bearing by hand. They should turn smoothly with little play. Usually a little resistance from seals but not much. When bearings are worn you can usually verify by wheel play. Hand at top and bottom on wheel and see if any movement. Shouldn't be tight as you describe.

  3. Take them to a bearing supplier and ask??

  4. Should move freely assuming the brake pads aren't against the discs.

  5. Front wheel is off and I can hardly move the bearings with my fingers ,I spoke to mechanic today and he says they are foobar . I've had worn bearings on other bikes and they were rough easy to tell they were gone . I've never come across tight bearings like this still smooth in operation but so tight .

  6. check the inner spacer if thats worn to any extent it will create side pressure on the bearings which shouldn't happen.

  7. Inner spacer looks fine. I'm going to replace the bearings along with the tyre on Saturday.

  8. I just did the rear wheel bearings on my 2007 ST3S. They were exactly as you described, very fubared.
