V4 Exhaust Woes

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Expat Jack, May 2, 2019.

  1. Bike went in yesterday evening for exhaust valve cable recall. Muffler turns out to be cracked. Bloody hell, not happy.
So, do i get new standard mufflers under warranty (in stock in Italy, c 5 working days), or fit either slip on or full system Akra's with a 'deal' subsidised by dealer/ducati? Anyone got any experience of the Akra - how loud, any other implications etc. Anyone else had a cracked muffler - I seem to recall reading about this issue somewhere else (and therefore, will the issue simply reappear later on if I stick with standard)?
I guess it depends on the price at the end of the day but interested in your thoughts. Cheers, Richard

  2. I had a full Akra system installed this year... and for me, it's how the bike should have always sounded! If you haven't heard one in person, then you need to... the video's around the web just don't do it the justice it deserves.
But I warn you, it is loud... without the baffles, it is obnoxious. With the baffles, only slightly obnoxious

  3. I've just had fitted the latest gen baffles and it's loud but not as loud as a Yosh on a JIL4. Andy

  4. Thanks @BeneWright & @Android853sp
    Stupid questions coming up warning:
    1. Are the cans (or anywhere else) marked not for road use or racing use only? I am always getting pulled ;)
    2. Do the slip ons do away with the cat (assume they do, but just to be sure).
I could really do without the expense at the moment,s o the default is stay stock,......but, if the price is right :upyeah::upyeah:
    Cheers,

    Richard

  5. Don't know about the slip on but for me the full system is the way to go. I don't believe anything is marked for non road use. I've been pulled over a couple of times on it over here and the exhaust was never questioned. It looks stock but loud.

  6. I've just blown up the image of the full system on the Ducati website and it does appear to carry competition use only markings, on the nearside (left) pipe. It should not be visible once fitted though....
Part number 96481491A is a Euro4 compliant replacement but, what's the point of that? Cant think too many of these will be sold.
The slip ons will also carry competition only markings, in the same place I guess. Can anyone confirm they bin the cat?
I agree full system is the way to go, but for me at the moment its about the $$$'s. Dealer is pricing up options for me.

  7. I'll take a look tomorrow to see if you can see it when installed. Have to get rid of those markings for sure.

  8. You might want to see how it affects the insurance first as it's a modification, you don't want to get a fright afterwards. I assume you won't be doing any trackdays on it, I use my 1199 with stock cans and it is 104dB so get MSV clearance aslong as I don't trigger the drive by. I was originally going to buy an 1199 with termis fitted, some insurance companies actually asked if it is stamped for road use when I got quotes, Carole Nash being one.

  9. Exactly why the stupid question. So, I have called my insurers, MCE. Their policy is, apparently, so long as its not an increase in cc's, a turbo or nitro kit then you can fit for no increase in premium. BUT, if you have a claim, they only fit standard parts. On my Kawasaki, I have an akra system. This is insured with Bennetts. They wanted a slight premium as its a mod.
    Thx, Richard

  10. I've just had the slip-on kit fitted and I'm well pleased. Had the headers replaced under a recall so system fitted FOC.

    Sounds amazing.

  11. Looks great too Steve. My bike has not had the header recall. I am waiting to hear the proposal, hopefully later.

  12. This is an interesting one for me
I’ve just had my ‘19YR V4s first service done and although I’m more than happy with the sound of the standard system.....being a bloke and even ‘tho the full Akra system really is obnoxious

I thought, rather than the £4200 for the full system. I would get just the “cans” but, not a massive saving on those.....

Are there any deals on the Akras yet??

Oh and OP the full system and std system are very different. I’ve heard them side by side

  13. How much mate ?

  14. Sticking with the standard cans, now (hopefully) on order from Italy. Was going to sting me in the order of £1250 for the slip-ons which, at this precise moment in time, I cannot justify. I think the slip on's are around £2800ish, which is a hell of a lot for a couple of cans and a reflash stick. That's before fitting (DIY for slip ons I would think). The lads on the counter at Blade were a little unsure ref the cat question and slip ons - they though it stayed on. I think Akra also do a link pipe to decat but I have not researched.
The standard cans are £1600 BTW.
Hope this helps. I am now Dukeless for a couple of weeks, lets hope it pisses down.
    Richard
