The pricey paperweight advice wasn't Zumo specific. It applies to "Zumo Alternatives", phone chargers, and any other SatNav device that doesn't take a 12v feed (does such a thing exist?)
Don't know. Until now, I thought every device was powered either with 12V or converted to USB voltage. What drew me to this thread were different dongles, brakets and wiring set-ups.
I think most run USB power but some have the transformer incorporated into the mount, some have a separate 'lump' in the lead.
Just installed one of my Garmin Nuvi's to my new Multi. Very pleased about the mounting and power solution leaving all DIN jacks free to use for other electronic devices. Works and looks great.
Hasn't happened very often (only once actually while on the Monster 1200) but when I did get caught in that downpour I just removed the GPS from the cradle. I now carry a zip lock bag in my stuff should it happen again and I require a GPS. Not that likely. Now you have me thinking about sharing a technique for waterproofing a Garmin Nuvi. I don't particularly need this method as my Garmin Nuvis are the glass varieties and pretty much sealed other than the mic hole which I can just tape. However, this will work for other models. Enjoy.
