FFS ..... how difficult can it be .... Just picked up a new fuel level sender and there is a Tech Note in the packaging instructing a software update to the BBS and Instrument panel. Anyone know what the consequence of not having this done is? Can the sender be fitted without damaging the system or does it need the update prior to fitting? What the hell is a BBS anyway?
Don't know what the acronym (Someone said Black Box System) is but this explains what it does: http://www.madcogz.com/MSTD1200s/wsm/en/MTS1200_ABS_10_6_6.32.1.html I vaguely remember reading that later model senders reverse the gauge, but don't know that for sure.
Bought a sender the other day and the parts guy said 2013 on need no update. Twin spark onwards . Anything before needs updating. He said software change.
The mad cog guy in the url. The one he has on his site is a 2010 but it’s a better manual than the later year models. I only use the later ones for year specific stuff. Here's the link http://www.madcogz.com/MSTD1200s/wsm/en/
fitted a new level sender and after refueling the tank guage now flashes empty. I have just looked at the info in the link from shorton and resistance across the level sender is stated as Empty tank 150 ohms Full tank 22770 (22.77k) ohms Just checked my old sender and the inverse is true i.e. 150 full and 22.77K empty. The new sender is showing 51K ohms with a full tank, persumably resistace decaying as the tank empties Looks like the new sender resistance could be working in the correct way but the resistance is way too high in comparison to the quoted specification.
