Wheel Painter / Powder Coater Nr Reading ????

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Dibble, Jun 11, 2019.

  1. Hi

Anyone got any recommendations on this ?

Also any reason to paint or powder as a preference, this will be for a set of trackday wheels.

    Cheers

  2. For a track bike, what’s wrong with rattle cans and save the money for new rubber or another track Day?

  4. The temperature reached during the powder coating process requires wheel bearings to be removed as it melts the grease whereas wet paint cures at a much lower oven temperature so wheel bearings can be safely left fitted and powder coating has a smaller range of colours to work from. I have used Steve Turner, http://tpcs-magnesium-refurbs.co.uk/ and am a big fan of his work. I have also used Image Design Custom in Camberley, Surrey http://imagedesigncustom.co.uk/ for that hard to match wet paint on wheels. Cost wise, there wasn’t much in it but Steve’s basic preparation of the wheel prior to coating is more involved, chemical strip and silica powder blast followed by a passivate dip before painting. 5. Because they are high quality wheels .....

  6. The paint doesn’t make them go any faster!

  7. Powder coat caused 2 of my hyperstrada rear wheels to crack a spoke and made the front one as soft as philladelphia cheese.

  8. That's not a consideration in this instance ...

  9. My wheels are at the painters now. Racepaint UK. Should get them back next week. Terry at racepaint made a lovely job on my RRV
For track I’d probably favor powder coating but it depends how many tyre changes you are going to do and how careful the tyre changer is

  11. You want them to look pretty, and/or just go slower???

  12. I echo the feedback on Steve, did a great job powder coating my wheels

  13. Gents thanks for all the tips, looks like I'm sorted, going down the painting route and didn't realise my fairing painter did wheels until I popped back in and he was just finishing a set that looked great, he then went out back and brought out a couple of other recently completed sets so will let him have them :)
