I know there's no rules when it comes to bikes and colour schemes, and it's very much a personal thing, but I can't help feeling that I'm about to commit some sort of sin by changing my 1995 frame and wheels, from silver to white. Tank and fairings also, of course (still need the correct fairings). I'm starting to over analyse everything, and question every decision I'm trying to make with this bike. Anyone else been in this position?
Yep, you need to think about whether its more important to keep it standard, or more important to make it your own bike. I went with the latter, and happy I did. I originally wanted to stick with the original frame colour, which I got from bike paints. I blastes the frame myself ( a horrible, time consuming job) and used the rattle cans from bike paints to paint it. Some fuel leaked onto the frame and stripped the paint of as its wasnt petrol proof.....So when I stripped the bike down to do some engine work I decided I was going to paint the frame black. The original frame bronze is a lovely colour, but I love the black and it goes well with the wheels. So, ask yourself what you want and just go with it, its your bike.
More buyers down the line for a stock original machine than a special,i have a stock 996R & a 916SPS special, both are nuts on the looks, but the stock bike will sell quicker.
Although the carby has begun to rise in value its never going to be a Brough so go ahead and make the bike look the way you want, mine shouldn’t have carbon silencers, who cares!, and I just painted my Monsters wheels black, so what! PS do get it powder coated, it’ll save you tons of time and be a really durable finish, should cost less than £200 including blasting. View attachment 160256
