Just About To Buy An Xdiavel, A Few Q's...

  1. Hey, I took a test ride on an XDiavel yesterday and will be buying on every soon, but I have a few questions about some things I noticed...

    1. The rear brake pedal had loads of travel, about 3-4", and was barely useful on the road too. All 3 of the bikes in the shop were the same, but the Diavel's which appeared to have the same master piston had about 1" travel and felt exactly as they should. Is this normal or did this place just not know how to bleed a brake?
    2. The S model I tried with the TFT dash was impossible to read in bright sunlight, and somebody mentioned that the non-S version didn't have the same screen. I can't find any info online about this, so is that bullshit? Do the antiglare stickers for these work?
    3. I'll want to upgrade the exhaust (unless I buy one already upgraded), how do I remap it? Does it need to go on a dyno and hooked up to do a custom map? Or is there a (I've seen one mentioned - Rapid Bike Evo) module that you need to buy which allows you to attach it to your laptop and download and install maps?
    4. Is there anything I should pay particular attention to when buying a used one?

  5. I thought about answering but mines just the normal Diavel. But the rear brake is shit though I don’t use it.

    In answer to the dash question.........it’s as good to read in sunlight as any other bike I’ve ever owned/ridden.

  9. I've never had this glare issue with other bikes, but they haven't had TFT colour screens, just the usual B&W type.
     
  10. Make sure you hang the calliper up - that's the main issue, don't think you will get near to boiling a rear brake system tbh

  11. My XDiavel is being delivered on Friday, with a Termignoni exhaust; perhaps that'll change the heat to the brake line. Has anybody also tried insulating it from the heat?

  12. I’m sure that it’s all down to how you fit on the bike. Different sized people will be in different positions to the screen. Added to which how you move around the bike will also have an effect.

    The only “standard” is the position of the dash. The rest is a “variable”.
     
  13. I bled the brake on a Monster I had a few years ago and did that too, made the world of difference so always do that now. :upyeah:

  14. I'm not talking about positions or angles, or a 'standard' (I don't know what you're referring to by that anyway), It's most likely the combination of the type of screen and the covering. It depends mainly on the direction you're travelling.
     
  15. Right.......In bright sunlight if you move around the bike sometimes you will be able to read the dash and other times you won’t because of the angle you are looking at the screen. It’s not rocket science.

    As an example, yesterday at certain times when I was riding in sunlight I couldn’t see what was on the screen BUT when I moved my head up/down/to the side then I could.
     
  16. Yes I understand that part, which is not rocket science, thanks for clarifying. But, there are different types of displays, with different characteristics in direct sunlight. Some are still readable in direct sunlight.
     
  17. I think also people are telling you the screen types are standard on the Ducati range - so while the actual picture on the screen on a Diavel may be different to that on a Pani V4 - the basic screen on an S version is the same...

    The S on most are colour - the base models B&W.

    So whether you by an X Diavel / Diavel / V4 or Multistrada... you get the same standard issue - where in bright sunlight its difficult to read.

    But if that is a deal breaker - buy the base model - loose the brake and suspension upgrade and get the BW dash which is easier (not always) to see in the sunlight.

    I had the Antireflective cover on my Multistrada - worked OK - but in direct sunlight - it was difficult to read..

  18. Interesting. Which ones? I’ve never seen one in 40 years of riding lots of different makes and models. Maybe I’m unlucky.
     
  19. I looked. I didn’t respond as I don’t have a Diavel and the questions were specific to that bike. Additionally the rear brakes work on both my bikes and I use them.

    When people know the answer they’ll help, if they don’t know then IME they don’t post for risk of confusing the OP. I would hazard a guess that the Diavel, in any guise, is not the most owned bike on here and that owners are few & far between.

    Sometimes an FB group is better suited but then again IME one also gets more shite & facetious answers than not which very rarely happens in response to a genuine question on here.
