Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Alan williams, Jul 15, 2019.

  1. We have Amazon prime, stopped using the music when they started charging extra for it, but that looks like a good offer I’d missed, will give that a go thank you.

Hoping for some good suggestions here also to stop me listening to the same stuff all the while.

  2. Yep be quick, 99p for 4 months whilst it's prime day which is today and tomorrow I believe

  8. I like most stuff, I’m 53 and always liked music. Never really been a fan of pop music though. Some artists / bands I’m into:

    Tom Waits
    P J Harvey
    Frank Zappa
    AC/DC
    Frank Sinatra
    Marilyn Manson
    Kate Bush
    Eminem
    Rush
    Alice Cooper
    Roger Waters
    Jools Holland
    Harry Connick jr.
    Opera.

To try and give an idea.

New to me I’m after please, ideally good driving music ( not your ‘top gear driving anthems’ type stuff though )

  9. Jean Michel Jarre
    REM
    Eagles

  10. Tried Radio 6 on the way in the morning, might keep trying that - sounded promising.

I guess people don't buy 'albums' anymore, my approach was often when I'd heard a track I liked - buy the album and hope for the best. This would often lead to other artists too, from guest appearances or going solo. I have even bought albums in the past based on the producer.

My preferred method is to have albums on my phone and connect that to the car, guess I need dragging up to date.

  12. Been trying the BBC sounds app - pretty good and reasonable variety.

Also went for Spotify - impressed with what’s available on there.

  13. Radio 6 is great for new music, downloaded quite a bit after hearing it in there.

  14. Hush, EU shill.

My brother-in-law finds me all my new music. I'll keep you informed periodically.

Now delete your BBC app and your TV licence.

Oh, and investigate St Vincent and Schooltree - fantastic bands.

  16. BBC say they're next big thing? A return of the guitar band...

  17. Most 'new' music I come across is from recommendations on forums like this.

I always say, I can remember banging on to my parents as a 12 year old or so about how great the Beatles were, and they were still going on about Glenn Miller. But people who bang on about Led Zeppelin now are even more out of date than my parents were then with their Glenn Miller!

So I like the idea to trying to listen to new music, there is plenty of it out there. Here's a few things I've liked lately. not all 'brand-new', but stuff you may not have heard before:

Superb musicianship from this new-to-me American husband-and-wife band.
