Monster 1200r Wiring.

Discussion in 'Monster' started by Lucazade, Dec 27, 2017.

  1. Hi All,

So as there is no accesories on Monster 1200R and getting to battery is a super bitch of a job have few questions hope someone can reply to below. Thx

    1. There is no Ducati heated grips for 1200R but power socket for heated grips is there.
    - Did anyone try to connect them and see if Ducati heated grips work?
    - Can I use that plug to conenct Oxford heated grips?

    2. There is alarm and accesory socket under tank. can I use it to connect my USB port, heated grips and other stuff like heated jacket using original Ducati connector? Is there a brakedown of how many AMP's each wire can take? I know that from that socket heated grips connector feeds form as per wiring diagram.

  2. You will need to buy Ducati grips approx £250 and they will plug straight in, operate from the indicator switch and the TFT panel tells you which setting, off , low ,mid , high.
I have them on my M1200 and they are great.

  3. Do you have an "R" ?

  4. Monster 1200 2018, ducati supplied and fitted.
I can’t see why the R should be any different.
    Give the dealer a call.

  5. It is very different including electronics. No DQS, no MMS, no Heated grips basically bar carbon nothing is there.

  6. The "R" is very different which is why I asked.
    Different ECU and Display Panel.
Moreover, the indicator switches on the "R" are completely different and do not have settings for the heated grips.

  7. Good luck, it maybe the fitting of the grips by the dealer, they access the ecu to enable the controls.
    You can live in hope.
Otherwise the oxford smart grips are good, these monitor voltage drop when the engine dips shut off and shut down.
I have used a fork connector under the live battery terminal.
To run a fused supply for sound bombs horns, you can loosen the terminal and slip this under.
Be careful not to short out the spanner on the frame.
You could do this for the grip supply.
Drill a hole in the battery cover and fit a grommet,
I use super plugs for connections.
Harness tape finishes off the job nicely.

  8. The thing I HATE about oxford grips is the big square controller.

  9. Heated grips are ok to a point but having had them I’d go for heated gloves next time so all you fingers and your whole hand is kept warm.

  10. I have both heated grips on the Multi and there's no substitute for heated gloves.
I would not spend any money on aftermarket heated grips.

  11. Heated grips are good when it gets nippy but gloves are for cold. Problem is gloves are fiddly and for commute grips is enough.
I am on Oxford as there is nothing for R from Ducati. It has the plug but no software.
