D16 clutch

  1. After 6000 miles the bite point on my clutch is right at the very end of the lever travel, making pulling away awkward, although the clutch hasn't started slipping when on the move. I'm assuming that its just that the plates are knacked, but don't have any experience of slipper clutches so am wondering if there is anything else I should be looking at such as ramp lubing, the bike was serviced last March so would assume all clutch lube was done then.

  2. Steve,

If you mean that it is right near the bar, then that's the bleeding issue - open the 11mm bleed nipple on the master cylinder and squeeze gently as thankfully all the air makes it's way to the top and it bleeds quite easily.

If you mean that it is right at the end of the travel before fully out, and you let it virtually all the way out and then it just grabs and goes, then yes, the plates are knackered. Mine did that and I think about 6k miles is about the most I have had out of a set of plates. Am on my third set. When they redo the clutch they will also clean and repack the places, lube the ramps et al with a special product that you spray on. Mine was like a switch the first time it did this, I left it so long. It just launched when you set off!

  3. Thanks for that, the clutch is only engaging when the lever is almost fully out and it is bordering on switch like. Figured it was the plates, but thought I'd ask.
