Seized Front Sprocket.

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by West Cork Paul, Aug 1, 2019.

  1. You'll struggle drilling a front sprocket.

I bought a new Renthal sprocket and the retaining holes hadn't quite been threaded all the way through so that the bolts wouldn't go in on the side required (went in fine on the rear).

I tried to cut the thread through the last couple of turns using a tap but there was no way it was going due to the hardness. In the end I sent it back to Renthal for a replacement.

  2. Using decent drill bits and taps should do it. I would also use 3 taps to do it nice and slowly. The number of times I have had to help people get a broken plug tap out of an incomplete thread. Plug as in type of tap, not a spark plug tap.

  3. Cut no.3 is scheduled for 10am Wednesday morning ...... but please don’t forewarn the Sprocket; keep schtum :no_mouth:
No, but have thought about making some C4 or borrowing some Semtex and squeezing it into the gap where the cuts are in the sprocket, then insert the detonator, lay the fuse cable and BOOM :bomb:. That’ll get the fooker off :D
I’ve knackered one sprocket puller already:(. Nice suggestion but it’s just a bigger sprocket puller:confused:. Apart from which it’s in 2 halves now, well 52/48 anyway but the Leaver ‘half’ is having difficulty leaving and the Remainer ‘half’ has migrated further along the shaft away from the exit:(
Good idea:upyeah:They filmed some of the last two Star Wars films not far from here, I’ll nip over there on Wednesday and see if they left any behind:D

Cheers fellas, I love you all :D

  7. If you're really not going to try again until Wednesday, suggest giving it a good soaking with your favourite releasing agent (diesel, WD40 (although I'm not sure that's really a penetrating agent) etc)...

  8. Wd40 etc would be to thick, DeGrip or PlusGas is purpose built for this type of issue.

  9. The tension is really building and the three day wait won't help that at all. Liverpool and Chelsea might be cancelling their wednesday night match as they are afraid all the fans will be out celebrating Eejits coming from behind to win against Sprocket.

Where is this going to take place? Madison Square, Vegas - maybe Cardiff?

  12. So the Hayes M1030 Military Motorcycle #6? I live in Cheshire so Boxhill isn't a typical haunt but if I am ever down that way I would really like to see the bike and chat with your friend. Whats the other one he has?

  13. This sounds like a job for...

  16. I’ll try and set that up but it’ll probably the most boring thing on YouTube since the last most boring thing:confused:. Another several hrs/days of me cursing.
:scream::mad::astonished:WTF! I do wish you’d all make your minds up! @drax dave told me to use peanut butter. I’ve gone and done that now.:astonished:
I’ve a sneaking suspicion leaving it outside underneath the supposed waterproof/storm proof cover has had a similar effect to chucking it in a swimming pool and which caused this issue in the first place :(

Sorry fellas but I can’t attack it again until Wednesday due to other arrangements people have for my time:(. However, I am hoping that by then it’s gorged itself on the peanut butter, is very drowsy and thinks I’ve forgotten about it, so’s I can sneak up on it and catch the little fecker unawares:D
