Reflash Traceability

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by kevin oflynn, Aug 16, 2019.

  1. hypermotard 950 T800 upmap question,
If i flash back to standard before service time can it be traced that i have changed the map previously??? Does anybody no for sure?
Many opinions and thoughts on this but nobody seems to have a definitive answer
    Cheers

  2. Yes i have as thats who i bought it fromJust waiting for a reply but wondering if there is differing opinions on this.

  3. I have the T800 upmap on my Supersport but since the bike is now out of warranty I really don't care and wouldn't have done anyway. It's my bike to do what I like with and unless the manufacturer can prove that it has caused some damage (unlikely) then I don't see that there is an issue.

  4. When you guys are talking about "reflashing " do you mean the EPROM in the ecu ?

If so , the device has no means of "remembering" it's previous contents
and I would have thought that there was no traceability .

Reflashing came up here just recently
    https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/ecu-reflash.65828/

I'd be keen to know if anyone has any additional technical detail on this .
Or some links to a suitably geeky site ?

  5. Yes, reflashing. However the current generation of ECUs are a lot cleverer than previous versions so it is a bit of an unknown.

  6. So how was the difference with the T800? My hyper 950 has the same ecu so will be the same i guess

  7. Newer ECu controls in cars and bikes now can log when they have been altered, not just in the main ECU but in the Bosch IMU units also as they talk to one another.
Audi/BMW/ Mercedes and other marques have been doing this for some time now and any car that has been chipped will not be re-sold through their own dealerships now because they cannot warranty those cars given they have had mapping outside of the manufacturers consent.
I have yet to hear if any dealers of cars yet are not prepared to accept a vehicle back from a PCP deal if the owner altered the mapping via a third party, but it's going to happen soon I hear in the grapevine because when you lease/PCP a vehicle it must remain standard and if it appears not to be then a charge/Levy can be imposed , so bikes could soon be targeted for this also I guess.

  8. Hi derek, i just installed the T800 on my hyper 950 and although i can fewl a difference it still backfires and pops a bit. Definitely smoother at low rpms but overall not night and day difference like the rexxer flashers are saying. What is your thoughts on it on your supersport?? I went with full termi with db killer in map as i have arrow decat with standard pipes.
    Cheers

  9. The EPROM went the way of all superseded technology when the 1.6M engine management system was replaced on the later 996 and 998 from about 2002/2003 with what we now refer to as an ECU which is easier to reprogram. The latest generation is more sophisticated yet again and certainly the Multistrada DVT ECU was claimed to be non programmable although given the time and effort, I believe CJS have finally cracked it. 10. It also still pops and bangs on the overrun, notably below about 2,500 rpm and of course the pops and bangs are louder with open Termi :p It's caused by the air injection which the upmap doesn't address.
I have the Termi D181 system and installed the upmap for it without the baffle, which I usually have out. The T800 is definitely smoother in the lower revs with a very noticeable increase in power delivery from 4,500 - 5,500 rpm. Beyond that it seems to keep on coming but I'm usually running out of road to try it much faster. I was up to Skye and back last weekend, about 600 miles, and it was still returning 50mpg which I'm happy with.
