Pirelli Angel Gt 2 - Big Thumbs Up

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by damodici, Aug 12, 2019.

  1. Got some of the new Angel GT 2's fitted at Demon Tweeks on the special deal a few weeks ago (buy rear get front free). Since then they'd been sat waiting to turn a wheel due to shite weekend weather, but yesterday I took the S1000XR out through Melton Mowbray to get them scrubbed in prior to my Spanish trip.

Not my usual type of tyre, I tend to go with something more dry fast road / bit of track, like the M7rr, Sportsmarts and that type of ilk, that said I was mega impressed with the GT2's

Warm up and confidence of grip happened really fast. Considering they're new tyres, and I always tend to take those first 50-100 miles steady, with these things you can just feel the grip come to you and within 10-20 miles I genuinely thought no more about the scrub in.

Obviously won't suit everyone but for the 'all rounder' I can enthusiastically give them the thumbs up.

We even got caught out in a torrential downpour on the way home and the frankly bonkers wet weather grip allowed me to ride home at a pace similar to that of really needing the toilet. In classic Top Gear stylee I left my mate behind as he cautiously plodded along with his M7rr's which couldn't match the Angels.

So there you go, if you really need a pooh, and want to be able to beat the turtles head no matter the weather, get yourself some Gt2's :poop::upyeah:

  3. I had a pair on my multi and they were great on the sealed roads, good grip and good wear etc but we did a stint on a gnarley gravel road and the rear kinda delaminated. After we fixed about 5 leaks on the side of the road, it still had about6 pinhole leaks. We know that because in desperation, we put a tyre pando in and it was making marshmallows all round.
The tyre had done around 2000km on it at that stage. Pirelli refused to stand by their tyre and left me in the lurch a bit.
To be fair, I don't know if I just got unlucky but that has never happened to me before...

  4. Were they GT or GT2's? The GT2's were launched May/June 2019, which is why i think they've had these offers because they missed the launch window and are probably sat on larger stocks than they need for the rest of the year

  5. You're right, they were just the GT not the 2. So a different tyre...I had to google that...as you were...

  6. Good to hear a positive review. A set will be going on my Monster 1200 a little later this morning to replace a set of Metzeler 01s. The Metzelers have been great, so the Angel GT2s have quite a standard to match.

  7. Is the deal still on them?

  8. Let us know the verdict Gaza.

  9. I had similar with the pinhole leaks, although no gravel road for me just normal roads. Got down to the point where I was going to have to start thinking of replacing them and the rear went flat. It was like the last few mm of tread was completely porous.

    Great tyre before that though

  10. Demon Tweaks it is til end of Sept. I'm currently at Bike Tyres Leeds, who were running it for 50 sets. I'm no 48...

  11. I'm not surprised they've got through them on this deal.

You know I'm convinced that it was a delayed launch for one reason or another by Pirelli, mcn didn't test until late May /June so I bet they've estimated they've missed the sweet spot for sales earlier in the year, therefore decided to move the bulk of stock instead of sitting on them another year.

Can't see why else you'd launch a class leading tyre and immediately run such an offer, of course unless you were grabbing market share, but that'd only come off the metzeler percentage and they're the same group.

  12. Scratch that. Apparently they'd not sold any in the week until I called yesterday, after which the remaining sets went in the next half hour.

  13. So, initial thoughts after approx 150 miles today...

I'm a fairly steady rider at the best of times, nevermind when on new tyres and a fairly damp road. Consequently the first 20 or so miles were taken exceptionally steadily. I headed out from Leeds onto the A64, before heading over to Seaways Cafe. By the time I'd arrived there, the roads were pretty much dry and I was starting to gain confidence. Tipping the bike in was a nice smooth affair, and they felt as confidence inspiring as the Roadtec 01s had been. Onwards, I headed back past Selby to Squires, before round Leeds and back home via Ducati Leeds to Hebden Bridge.

The GT2s are definitely far smoother to turn in, however that's hardly surprising given the Roadtec 01s had done 6.5k and were decidedly squared off. They do feel a touch quicker to turn in, however that again may well be down to them being a new profile, rather than different. Probably the biggest compliment I can give them is that I seem as happy with them as I did previously with the 01s, which in combination with the Monster has been as good as I've felt with any bike I've owned. Early days, so see how they go with a few more miles on them, and how they cope in the wet.

  14. these new Pirelli tyres are not the same tyre as the orignal Angels, these are brand new Angel GT ii

i only picked up a set few days ago. we had a promo on them over here too. The reason pirelli are promoting them ( from what i was told ) is down to the fact ppl are buying the michelin PR4 / PR5's over the pirell sport touring tyre and by a huge margin. I was wasn't originally convinced by the first Angels they brought out - its a sh!t name for a tyre anyway, and i didnt like the look of the thread pattern for year round riding..

My thoughts on these new Pirelli Angelt GT ii so far...4 days in

i stuck a set of these on a two-up hack i have, Honda crossrunner 1st gen, that was 4 days ago. Like over there, the weather here has been pretty crap wet / windy. I got 5 dry miles from the shop where they were fitted, and since then all wet miles, now at 220 appx.

from the off these tyres offered great grip, and i was out Saturday on B roads , some knarly, twisty etc for about 130 mls, and they were superb - rain heavy for 70% of the time we were out, 3hrs and not once did the tyres let go. Id hold a brisk pace and the tyres were superb, even when rain was chucking it down, going left / right up and down rises etc. Its dry now today and, i can confirm these tyres turn in quite quick, i like the profile, i like the stiffness of the sidewall (unlike michelins which are soft ) and very happy so far. Id put these tyres on the likes of a monster 1200 no problem etc. For an al round tyre these are worth a punt. Great grip and not even run in yet.
