2008 S2r, Only 5000 Miles

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by drax dave, Aug 14, 2019.

  1. Hi All, I am going to see this bike tomorrow, a low mileage minter. And there-in lies the rub, the indy dealer appears to be offering only a two month warranty. Bikes and most machinery thrive on regular use, so I will be asking for a longer warranty period to insure against mechanical mishaps. I believe these motors to be pretty bulletproof so am I being a bit too nervous ??

What do you think dudes >

  2. Depends how much premium over private sale it’s costo you

  3. They are asking £6k - top money as you mentioned a few days ago

  5. Cheers but I think that I will doing well to get 6 months but no harm in asking !!

  6. @drax dave Is it a 1000 or an 800 ? What appears to be a very nice 800 has just come on Ebay for just over half that figure. Just 8500 miles .

  7. Just seen one at Roy Jervis for 6 grand, must be the one as its a 2008 with 5000 miles and is 1000cc. I think they have had that for sale for well over a year, not surprised at that price.
They are great bikes, I`m on my second. I wouldnt worry too much about extending the warranty, they are IMO pretty basic and reliable. Better to try to get it for less.

  8. Tbf these motors seem absolutely bulletproof. But no harm in asking!!

  9. Thought s2r was only 800?

  10. No, both 800 & 1000.

  11. Yeah was 800 first I think, that's what I had, then the 1000

  12. Yes it is the one at Roy Jervis and it is a "Thou" I've had a couple of 900 Carby SS's and loved them so would love a Monster. I have looked at the S4's too but they (sorry) look a bit messy in the engine dept and TBH I don't really need 110 horse - 90 will do nicely thank you !!

  13. That one on ebay is 800, I asked. Tempted tbh... a 1000 would almost be a no brainer. Perfect road and track bike for me these days

  14. 1000DS Motor is pretty bulletproof unless very high mileage, one of the best air cooled motors.

Don’t buy an S4, worst monster they made, 1000 is miles better.

  15. Well I went and did the deed. The bike really is a minter, with FSH, and belts done in Feb this year. I ended up paying the asking price but did get 12 months warranty so am very happy, and looking forward to collecting the bike after a quick oil & filter change and new battery first. Anyone got a spare paddock stand ?

  16. I expect you will be a very happy chappie once you have it at home and out on the road. These bikes are great! - though I confess to a slight personal bias.

  18. CIMG0842.JPG CIMG0843.JPG Well today is the day _ got the train down to Ripley, they collected me from the station and got tax etc sorted. Stopped at the garage around the corner only to find the tank was brimming !! Had a great ride home, clutch is a bit grabby in town but I do very little town riding. Very impressive engine performance, but need to keep the revs north of 4K; and is it overgeared or what , snick into what I assumed was top at 75/80 only to find that there was another one !! Might two teeth up on the rear sprocket help ? Pretty comfortable, with good wind/body balance at speed. Fantastic bike - and very light to move around _ overall very pleased.

  19. 14 tooth front sprocket helps no end

My 1000DS had full sil motor headers and DP cans, k&n with open air box and a fully mapped PC, absolutely transformed a good bike into a great one... still regret selling it

  20. Yep drop a tooth off the front
