  2. Have been looking into these but It seems there is a delay between the doorbell being pressed and being able to access the viewing capability on your phone/ tablet, long enough for the caller to turn around and walk away thinking no one is home.

  3. I would imagine that's the older ones without motion detection. The newer ones will wake up before the caller gets to the door to ring the bell.
You could go the hybrid route and get one that includes a physical peephole.

  4. I'd like a ring doorbell but they're massive, ridiculously so.

Hopefully they'll bring out a ring 3 soon with smaller dimensions

  5. I also think you have to buy a separate ‘chime’ to have the Ring ‘ding dong’.

  7. Sounds like the ring one is what she needs.

  8. I didn't go with Ring because I have my own CCTV recorder for my other cameras and Ring would only work with their cloud storage.

I went with an £80 Chinese brand camera that has behaved impeccably for the past 6 months or so. It runs off PoE and is wired into my network, with it recording 24/7 to my CCTV recorder. It has also behaved well when we're out, with the only missed pushes being when I've been driving or otherwise unable. When talking to delivery drivers, there is no noticeable lag either. My Duramat garage floor was successfully left out after coming rather unexpectedly whilst I was on holiday. The driver felt confident enough in my say so and all the CCTV, to leave it. just had to convince the mother in law to pop round and secure it.

If you want ease and a slick interface, go with Ring. Don't be afraid of some of the others though as with Ring, you will pay over the odds for the name and the online storage. At the end of the day, it's a lot of money for a 720p camera and 720p is only enough for a doorbell camera because they walk right up to it. You will not be picking out numberplates. Edit, just seen the new Ring is 1080p. I should think so too.

Does she actually need two way communication? If she only wants to see who is at the door, and she's always in, why not a proper camera. I run good spec Reolink cameras and have the app on my phone. If I'm in and want to see outside, that's the app I always reach for as you could set up 2 cams for 2 angles for similar cost. They record to my NVR but also to SD card in the camera as backup

Those images are not full Res. It displays in easy stream mode and you can toggle full res
