Had my M1100 evo for a year now, been 100% reliable and has served me well in my daily commute to London. Keen to find out if the new Hyper is any better from a day to day commuting perspective, apparently the throttle response is very progressive and water cooled engine is smooth and possibly less hot on a summer's day than the evo, but it's 50mm higher than the evo which I am not keen due to veritically challenged. Tthe 18000 mile service interval is welcoming (compared to 7.5 for the monster), and it also has more power despite smaller capacity and slightly bigger fuel tank (16l v 13.5l) Think both looks great but the dealer wants £5000 to change if I want the same spec as the year old 6.5k miles monster (Evo Tech tail tidy and Termi slip on low system which includes ecu and air filter). I do fancy a change but £3.5 depreciation in 1 year is a bit hard to swallow. Is it worth it?
Flog the Monster privately, you'll get more for it. But I'd definitely get a test ride on the Hyper first; it may have more power but it may be at the expense of all that lovely 2-valve torque.
Defo sell monster privately. The two bikes are as different as chalk and cheese. Get a test ride and see if you think it's worth the swap. There are options on the seat height. In all cases there is a 20mm lower seat available from DP, and i think there's 20mm in height between the three models (incl. hyperstrada) so the 50mm, or most of it, could soon be accounted for.
I had an 1100S Hyper and swapped it for a Multi-Stroodle last year. When I look back now at when I bought the Hyper in late 08, I realised a few years later I should've waited for an 1100s Monster to come out in mid 09. Lucky I now have the Stroodle & M1100S. Would I get a Hyper again? Not likely.
I would'nt be suprised if they release that engine in a monster within a year or so, if it were me i would be inclined to wait and see what happens, the evo is a stonking machine and it would grate on me too to lose that ammount money to px.
Well took the Hyperstrada out this afternoon. It was part of the Ducati UK Stradatour set up so we had two Ducati employees riding with us to make sure we didn't misbehave :frown: but neverthless i would advise to get a test ride. The new 820cc engine is a peach. Loads of stomp out of bends and quite how Ducati got it through noise testing i don't know. Makes for a naughty road bike that you could do a few longer trips on. Not sure the riding position is conducive to two week tours but certainly for long weekends and so on its made for the job.
Took a hyperstrada for a ride today, loved it, big grin so ordered a hypermotard sp, hope to have it in about 5 days......can't wait will post pics def converted, sold gsxr750 still have a 996 but am looking to sell it as I ache like buggery these days lol
