Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

  7. Dunno fin, Scots are funny folk, even worse if they live on the smaller islands.

They start thinking they are either vikings or Norwegians or summit, strange strange folk

  9. I think this is a bonkers policy. Absolutely 100% wrong

Even though my preferred option would be to remain I could not support this. Similarly, say the SNP took the same approach and said if they won 45+ seats then they would declare independence unilaterally? That would also be madness.

This is not a serious policy.
It’s about one thing only. It’s about keeping Jo Swinson in her seat and the Lib Dem’s not losing their leader the first time she is tested.

  10. I am beginning to think the ones from the small islands are the "paragons of rationality" of the Free Folk.

Especially those Shetland wildlings, they have their heads screwed on all right - relatively speaking.

  11. despite all those poor fisherfolk, they voted remain.

  12. Shetland has a warmer climate than the NE and Highlands of Scotland during winter,
The Shetland Islands Council was once extremely wealthy due to the tax they negotiated with oil companies on loading oil from the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal (1p/barrel as I recall - during the period when 1 million b/d was not uncommon),
The Shetland Islands Council run Sullom Voe Port Authority was the only port authority in the world which insisted on 4 tugs per crude carrier,
The Shetland Islands Council was the largest employer in the Shetland Isles,
The Shetland Island Council has a vested interest to try to maintain their wealth and will use The Shetland Times to further their case.
    Ask me how I know?

  13. how do you know harry?

  14. How do you know?

  15. ffs, you're one of them, aint yah?. go on, admit it.

  16. Not quite, they accept you after 5 years (just about to the day....)
I had the misfortune of spending 6 years at Sullom Voe Terminal (I won't go as far as to say working) and was aware of the protracted negotiations with the SIC to reduce all tariffs to secure more business for the terminal (Foinaven oil went to Flotta because of the tariffs).
So SIC have vested interest in re-feathering their nest in any way they can.
Cold weather payments? Lerwick installed a district heating system in the late 90's when they replaced the power station - just for shits and giggles....
