1260 1260 Multi S - Quick Shifter Problem Between 5th And 6th

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by firecat0_0, Sep 17, 2019.

  1. Has anyone experienced a complete (but temporary) loss of power when using the quick shifter between 5th and 6th under full? It feels like the engine has died but then full power kicks back in, progress is significantly retarded and it feels very uncomfortable. I tried it a number of times and it did the same every time. The bike has 4K miles on the clock and full termi.

  2. No, but I have had false neutrals between 5th and 6th, possibly related?

  3. :bucktooth:Apparently it is related according to my dealer .
That was his suggestion , there is a false neutral between 5th and 6th ?
Mine does exactly the same under load , it’s biz
If you do it at lower revs it doesn’t do it , 8000 miles in
I just don’t use it under load in that gear

  4. Exact same here, I either get a false neutral or the hesitation as described above, both occurring between 5-6 upshifts with quickshifter. 2600 miles on bike.

  5. Not noticed any issue when changing manually from 5th to 6th but using the quick shifter under full power is a rarity for me but I will investigate next ride.

  6. I took a demo Multi 1260 Enduro out last week and noticed the exact same thing.... the quickshifter seems to cut all power so that i rocked forward then cut back in moving me back a bit which seemed snatchy. Fine on a constant open throttle through all other gears but the 5th to 6th change was poor most of the time.

At first i thought it was my fault "preloading" the gear lever for a clutchless change as i do on a non quickshifter bike but even after i adapted my gear shifting it still did it

I also hit a false neutral on the way down from 6th to 5th once using the quickshifter but as both my 1200GT's did/do the same every now and again i recognised it straight away and clicked down again which saved explaining to the shop why i had lobbed their demo bike into a hedge on a country road at a fair rate of knots

  7. Well good luck with these issues and the numerous others with what IMHO, is a pretty useless addition to the bike.
Having taken mine into Riders in Bristol to try to get this mechanism rectified so that it might actually work as intended, I was advised it was functioning fine..... Operator error it is then!:p
The problem described is well known, but there is a solution.
Turn the damn useless sodding thing "OFF" = Result:yum

I think it ought to be renamed: 'S**tShifter' :poop::poop::poop:

  8. It has happened once or twice on my 1260 (21K miles) and it usually me! it still requires a hard nudge and if you are too soft it can miss the gear. All my Multis have needed a very positive action on the gearshift.
The QS Load Cell was replaced at about 6k miles as it would always upshift but not (sometimes) downshift, dealer just replaced it and no faults since.

  9. Sounds different to my bike, clicked the shifter from 5th to 6th, engine power momentary dies then kicks in and off we go without shifting again. The engine does not spin up like it would with a missed gear.

  10. I can just detect the slight pause in power that lets the gears shift but half the time there is a second pause. Happens in lower gears too. Occasionally there's a big hiccup. Downshifting sometimes has a second throttle blip. I don't believe it has anything to do with the transmission, just a very buggy quick shift. I doubt the Desmosedici GP bike has this unreliable QS

  11. I feel like this is a combination of a pretty basic QS and questionable shift between 5th & 6th.

I’m conscious of going between the two gears and make an effort to be more positive with the gear lever. One a couple of occasions, I’ve triggered the QS before I’ve actually shifted.

  12. GC2629 You may be right - the engine effect on mine is even more pronounced than when coming out of cruise control.

I must admit this is the first bike I have had with a QS so I often forget to use it! I am not overly confident in its down shifting ability, I close the throttle and prod the lever and it goes down the box, it goes into gear like you have down shifted without matching gear to speed! No idea about the blipping bit! It certainly is no where as good as the QS on the XR.

It is not the end of the world but it should work if fitted, personally I would have preferred to have TPMS fitted as standard in its stead.

  13. I've had the flat spot on acceleration and also the second throttle blip. Moto Rapido my dealer have looked at it twice and insist there is no problem, the inference being that it is due to something I am doing wrong, which it most definitely is not. My bike is fantastic, has now done 14,000 miles and has run fautlessly....as long as I don't use the QS. So I keep it switched off. There is clearly a fault with some quick shifters and Ducati should acknowledge it and put it right.

  14. It does seem pretty useless on a street bike. GP racers could shift 500 times in a race and a QS is essential to spare the rider's clutch hand. Great feature when accelerating and braking to the max.
It was a bit of a novelty for me in the beginning, sounded cool, but riding is so much smoother without it. I have no use for it now.

  15. Youre right it is a bit useless , except for the unnecessary bang it makes ( favourite bit)
last few times ive been out ive stopped using it too.
Has anyone fitted an aftermarket unit that has resolved these issues ?

  16. I love the QS but it only comes into it's own when you "ride it like you stole it". Why does it only have problems between 5th and 6th?

  17. Rarely use it on the Multistrada, only when really 'on it' and feeling frisky... Having said that I haven't noticed any serious issues in 7,000 miles when I have used it, though I'm mostly in Touring mode. Next time I'm out solo I'll try between 5th and 6th in Sport.

On my MV Turismo, where there was more dancing up and down the box involved, I used it most of the time. Shame that they fitted a shitty quality shift sensor that failed three times in the 18,000 miles I had the bike. It worked very well when it was working but delays in getting warranty approval, trips to a distant dealer for both assessment and replacement as well as parts availability issues meant that it was broken for about a third of my ownership.

  18. The way the fairly new sales bloke said was it works best with the throttle wide open and by the time you are wide open in 5th to 6th things are travelling rather fast so most people dont have it held wide open.

I think thats bullshit as i did have it wide open at the time and was travelling fast but it still did the power cut then kick in again and was anything but smooth unlike the rest of the gearbox :D

  19. So I’m the only person who uses the quickshifter constantly up and down the box?

  20. I try to use the quickshifter constantly, but I have the 5th to 6th problem intermittently, and of more concern sometimes the auto blipper doesn't work, which is bloody dangerous when approaching a downhill hairpin bend in the Alps or Pyrenees and you don't get the engine braking you expected. Because it's intermittent it's difficult for the dealer to fix, because when they try it, it works every time.
