Changing Dip Beam Bulb On 748

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by NeilH, Oct 3, 2019.

  1. Hi,
My dip beam isn't working - particular pain because it is having its MOT on Monday! I'm assuming that the wire attached to the bulb is just that - attached.
How do I find the other end of the wire, what do I have to remove to get to the connector, how much of a faff is it?
Can I get a replacement bulb from Halfords or is it a Ducati job? Fortunately I can pop into Moto Raido tomorrow if required.
    Thanks in advance
    Neil

  2. It's quite easy from memory, nothing has to be removed, just the rubber boot covering the bulb holder, it's just a straight forward swap.

  3. Thanks. I've removed the bulb from the connector. Might be a bit tricky reconnecting the wire back in as it is a bit buried. I'm guessing removing the nose fairing will make it accessible?
    Cheers

  4. It depends where the end of the wire with the spade connector is.
My dip bulb popped during the MOT a couple of years ago, the connector was trapped inside the headlamp bucket, so it was back home then mirrors, nose and side fairings off, headlight out, and then as Birdie says rubber boot off and a quick H3 bulb change. I had one in the garage but most car shops should sell them.

  5. Thanks - I think mine is similar. Don't really have a problem with taking the nose cone off - have one side fairing removed already as I wanted to check the fuse! Feeling calmer now!

  6. You can get it from Halfords but ignore their bulb chart. It is wrong!
The bulb you need is H3 453 and has the wire attached etc. take your blown bulb with you and you can see it is the exact match. Had to change mine 2 months ago.

  7. PS. It’s in the car bulbs section!

  8. Thanks - Halfords is just round the corner from where I work so no problem
    Thanks for all the advice.

  9. Main beam is H1 448 while you are there.
They do a Halfords Advanced bulb that is supposedly 100% brighter. Not sure if it is though!

  10. They used to do 100w bulbs which really were much brighter but I don't think they do them anymore.

  11. Bulb changed (it is really easy once the nose cone is off and headlight housing pulled out). Also found a wire that had been caught and was showing bare wire. The earth connection was also dodgy! So a bit of tidying up and now seems to work
Thanks for the help and advice

  12. Did you clean the lenses while you were about it, or are they nice and clear already?

  13. No, probably should have but I have a habit of breaking things so left well alone! They aren't too bad

  14. If it aint broke, ......
