Had to attend a driver retraining course for parking a dray/beer lorry outside a central London pub to do a delivery. ( job been done for 70yrs like this, but as agency scum the company won't fight your corner) This was a alternative to the 3-6 points & fine. The interesting thing on this course was over 50%"of people on this course had been 'convicted' by Joe publics dash cam footage, which had been submitted to the police ! Red light offences & pulling out on people etc
One poor girl had passed her test a few years ago but no had money to drive. Finally got a car & after about a month pulled out on some 'nosey nigel' (with dash cam) after finding herself in a bus lane. Said she even apologised to him but he still emailed it off. Glad this upstanding citizen option wasn't about 25yrs ago, I'd be just about eligible for parole now.
Every time i see a youtube video with someone saying 'ive got you on camera' i want to punch the laptop... we all make mistakes, but setting the populous against each other like this is a recipe for problems and confrontations. empowering the minority to control the masses...
Or a means of controlling the public, just like 1984 and former East Germany... encourage sobbing in your friends & neighbours!
there's one on the tabloids at the moment, a guy in a car in traffic and some idiot on a bike telling him to get off his phone... creating conflict rather then a solution, as i would guess all the guy wanted to do was pull him off his bike..
although in our next breath with our motorcycle helmet on we would be shouting at the SMIDSY car driver to pay attention and get off his phone... Also i wonder what percentage of footage sent in is from helmet cams from motorcyclists? That said i know of a cyclist who submits at least 25 of these video footages a month every month.... almost like he is out goading people to do something in front of him..
surly there has to some balance, as it seem we have just resorted to some faux belief of having a moral authority overs others... some need to be reminded that a camera isnt a gum shield..! i saw one, where a guy was gobbing off at a car driver, as he may have crossed lanes, and he didnt anticipate it, and then shouted he had caught it on camera, and then kicked off the side mirror of the car... while still recording...i don't get it to be honest...
I intervened in a roadside incident early in the year. Lycra lad (middle aged bloke with glasses) vs pikey. LL kept saying ‘it’s all on camera’ as P tried to keep punching him and trying to hit him with a 4x2.
not a smart move i guess, as folk think just because you have a camera, therefore you must have the moral high-ground.. people make mistakes, for a multitude of reasons, i don't think this is the way forward
