After a recent, mostly motorway, 200mile ride in just above freezing conditions on my newly acquired Triumph Sprint wearing a loaned Exo Stormwalker heated jacket, I am considering buying an Exo Stormrider heated jacket and was wondering if anyone here has one. I found wearing the jacket a revelation, worth its' weight in gold, keeping my kidney /lower back area as warm as toast, but I did notice the lack of any heating in the chest area! The Stormrider jacket at £179 is about twice the price of the Stormwalker as it has heated areas in the chest and collar. What do you think , is the extra expenditure worth it, or what heated jackets have you used and consider good. All advice welcome and appreciated.
I have the stormrider waistcoat- it is a fantastic piece of kit. I wear it in winter with t shirt & leather jacket - even in snow it feels like the sun is beaming down on me Expensive, but worth every penny.
They're brilliant jackets but the connectors are shit. They come apart when you least want them to and if you're out for a long day and are likely to stand up on the pegs to stretch your legs be prepared to either get cold or have to stop to connect it again.
Not got experience with the Storm rider stuff but popped into Maplin and the Heatfabric kit they were selling before xmas was in clearance with 90% off. Picked up a heated gillet and heated insoles for less than £15. The gillet has 2 heat pads in the chest which is ideal really, the only spot on my upper body that gets cold, apart from fingers but their heated gloves looked a bit too bulky! Insoles have the heatpad under the toes which should be nice. Need to go inspect an MG TF in Ayr tomorrow so will see if they do a job.
Luckymarine I will save you the bother of testing it. I bought one last year as it was so cheap. If it's the same one I had with a battery pack 6 x AA batteries from memory. Don't bother it's totally useless, bearing in mind I was trialing it in relatively warm conditions, I could just about make out some tiny heating effect, about the equivalent to a slug sitting on your chest! I took it back and requested a refund due to it being useless and I didn't have any arguments as I suspect that they had a few people doing the same as me. I just ordered yesterday a Stormrider heated waistcoat, as I was so impressed with the Stormwalker waistcoat that I borrowed last week and rode 200 miles in just above freezing conditions. I was as warm as toast blasting along down the motorways at faster miles an hour! Brilliant piece of kit. btw found the Stormrider jacket on e bay for £169 inc delivery!
You were right Gilet was a bit poop, just not enough heat generated. Insoles however were a different story, had to pull over and turn them off! Will be better in colder weather. Am popping up to Ayr and back in 20 mins so will give them a proper outing.
I have the exo waistcoat and expect to get the pillion one before we hop off for a ride around the alps. Last time i was there on a bike it snowed at the end of june and the boss on the back was not very impressed ! The Exo kit is really cool, well you get the idea it's actually very warm. I decided to get the waistcoat as i did not want the bulk of the sleeves and there are no heating elements in the arms.
Another good point about the EXO kit is you can wash it so after you've cranked up the temperature and spent a few hours sweating like a rapist you can freshen it up a bit.
Both my exo stormider waistcoat & the other halfs when pillion run off the bike battery with no problem.
