Metzeler Comp K Slicks

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by james bazel, Oct 16, 2019.

  1. I bought these tires in Jan from The Visor Shop as my first set of slicks, and after 3 track days on a fast track I'm very impressed. Grip levels are still good for fast intermediate pace and the wear still looks decent. Anyone looking to try their first set of slicks these are very user friendly, I didn't need to do any suspension changes, they can be used with or without warmers, and the tire temp remained consistent throughout the track day.

  2. Vast improvement over the old model which were borderline dangerous

  3. Probably a good choice at the beginning and end of the season when it is too cold for the usual choices as well. I'm seriously considering using them if I'm racing early next year again as road tyres kept me safe but felt awful....not that I'm planning on racing early in the year next year but who knows!

  4. I had a crash last year with road tires and I'll never use road tires on the track again. I used warmers for these on a 45deg morning and they felt pretty good , but I wasn't really pushing it because because of the cold temp.

  5. We have similar conversations with the rookies in the race team every year where they are trying to save money on tyres. The CompK are quite hard in order to last longer so like road tyres they overheat easily when pushed hard and the guys racing end up crashing. Right at the beginning of the year when its ~10 degrees though I think they could be a good option, perhaps with an K0 Metz front for some grip. Some of the fast boys used them early this year and were doing low 1'30's around Cadwell Park.

  6. Be warned, having far more grip front can lead to more plaster and painkillers...

  7. Fair point! I've never tried using them, just thinking aloud really so could very well be talking complete rubbish.

  8. I ran a front new Pirelli with a worn (I’ll get two more sessions) rear at Cartagena. Was following a guy doing mid-140’s (I.e. 144-145 times), and simply lose the rear on the left hand hairpin when thinking I was stoner and taking the kerb...

fixed, new rear in, doing less pace (about 1’50 ish), did same on same corner and rear and front just gripped and went forward every lap.
