  1. So i’ve taken over an abandoned 748/999 engine swap project. The project hasn’t been touched for 12 years. The motor is in and running, however still need dyno time to set up etc. The fundamentals are all there, it just needs finishing.
I’ll be removing the engine and getting it all checked out, new belts (obviously) replace any worn parts etc. Before the 999 motor was fitted the frame was powered coated black, in doing so they covered the frame numbers. So I’m thinking about stripping the frame back to the metal and repainting the original factory bronze.

    So here’s my question?

Has anyone re-painted their bronze frame? It’s a satin/matt finish from factory, so will be easily matched from a good quality rattle can. I know the grey frames from later models are smooth and would probably require a professional job. Or should I just get some frame tags made up and keep it black.

  2. What colour are the panels??

  3. You won't find a "rattle" can to match. There are specialist bike paint suppliers that have the correct paint that matches but are not cheap. Is your intention just to spray over the black?
You have more of a problem with the obscured frame number. Just making "tags" for the frame, I presume from that you mean stamping the number on a piece of metal and attaching it somewhere, won't do

  4. This isn’t my first Ducati resto/project. I’ve already completed 2 to concourse standard.

The OP said the frame will be stripped to bare metal.

You can indeed get a match in a “rattle” can and get the same factory finish if done correctly.

    Thanks

    IF more

  5. Red at the moment. Have toyed with the idea of getting the frame powder coated red, but I quite like the bronze.

Saying that, red frames do look good

  7. Being a hybrid I guess you can have artistic license with colour, I voted bronze as I like that colour scheme and Cagiva era decals but it's your bike.

Should be a great bike whatever colour it is :upyeah:

  8. It’s a bitsa, that’s or sure lol.

Tbh, I was actually thinking along the same lines. Really like the older decals. May look at having some 799 decals made up in the older font :upyeah:

  10. If you’re keeping the red panels then go back to bronze IMO

  16. I’m a huge Bayliss fan, could go down the Bayliss rep route like my old race bike, and by the looks of it your bike too. Such an great looking machine in thy livery

  18. The full red bikes, especially the Rs look the dogs but I got a bit bored with full red.
I think the graphics break it up nicely.
