Up Map Malarky.

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Yoozy, Sep 30, 2019.

  1. Chaps, I've just bought a used full Termi for my Dvt. It was advertised as coming with the upmap. I'm very happy with the system, but the dongle dooins does nowt. I'm in discussions with the seller about this. So, what's the crack, do I need to take it to Ducati to get the upmap put on the dongle, and how much is that likely to cost?

(I've had a decat set up on it before and it ran fine bar a few extra farts, maybe this will be ok?)

    TIA. :upyeah:

  2. The up map has to be set up by Ducati agents, you cannot do it yourself by just plugging it in. As far as I know...

  3. ^ that would be my advice too.

  4. What do they actually do? I’m a complete numpty with this stuff, I’d like to know more.

  5. It’ll let the new exhaust breath and the engine run smoother throughout the Rev range.
Worth doing but no idea of cost.

  6. I get that mate, I was more interested in what Ducati actually do to the dongle. Put a map on that and then plug that in, and it sends the info to the ecu?

  7. They flashed mine (rexxer)
    It’s a software update.
book it in and get it sorted, the sooner you do the sooner you’ll be enjoying the free spinning engine.
Next thing you’ll be wanting is the SCU update.

  8. Ducati transfer the Map that should be on the Up Map key - to their software - then download that to your bike - and put the original map back on the key...

Thats what I was originally told...

But now on later bikes - I believe the UPmap Key - is more like a password that allows them to download the map to your bike... but believe like a passwork key can only be used on one bike.. so unless previous owner had the standard map swapped back.. you may not be able to use key.

In any case the dealer does the maps and the key plugs into their machine - not your bike.

  9. Blimey what a faff :D

    What’s the ££

  10. Only the very early upmap were plug n play. The version you have requires the Ducati diagnostic gear to install the updated map. If it’s a used system, the previous owner will have needed to have Had the process reversed in order for the key to work again on your bike.
The very latest upmap are now being paired with the vin and then the diag software uploads the new map.
Shouldn’t more than a half hour to do.
