Vinyl Wrapping - First Attempt!

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by pingping010101, Apr 12, 2013.

  1. Today I decided to learn to vinyl wrap.

I got some vehicle wrapping vinyl from a local sign maker and a hot air gun from Wickes and set to.

The Vinyl was £35 per metre; I bought 2. The air gun was £20.

In 6 hours I managed to do 3 panels, and although it is far from perfect (there are quite a few wrinkles) it's looking ok.

Not sure what to do with the front and tail yet. I'll think about that tomorrow when I get them off and start mucking about.

It's not as hard as you'd think but it is quite hard to get it perfect.

Worth doing yourself though if you fancy a change of colour.

    What do you think?

  2. i think it looks half done

but the half you have done looks good

  3. Not bad for a first attempt. Better than I could do. Any more colour going on the sides. Bit too much white at the moment.

  4. Looking good.

  5. Im not sure. I was going to do the whole thing completely white, but the fins etc on the front were very hard to wrap properly, so I cut the orange in.

I'm now looking for some nice vinyl stickers on ebay to put on there and figuring out how to wrap the tank and tail.

The black stripe around the tank peels away so I may have a white tank with a yellow pin stripe.

I've bought 2 of these DUCATI CORSE -1 x 60mm sticker with high gloss gel finish - Motorcycling | eBay

and that is as far as I have got.

  6. Anything that covers a yellow Ducati is good in my book.

  7. You could have made it red.............. You do know that red ones are faster don't you?!?!

  8. nice job.

  9. I like the idea of vinyl wrapping, but the vast majority of standard paintjobs look pretty good to me these days. They should have bought it out in the '90's when the YZF750 and some particularly heinous GSXRs ruled the streets...

  10. well done for having a go yourself, good job, look forward to seeing it finished, and the good thing is, if you dont like it, off it comes and back to yellow, which i quite like personally

  11. So I've finished putting all the white vinyl on.

It was harder than I thought it would be to find inspiration.

It's not perfect, but I am going for 'looks ok from from a 10ft away'.

I'm on the hunt for sponsor stickers and then it will be a one off 749s and I've done it all with my own hands.

    This is what I'm thinking

  15. The vinyl wrap needs a black pinstripe like the numberboard, I reckon.

  16. If you pull it from the bottom left corner I'm sure you could pull it all off in one go? Sorry but I think it looks shit.
There I go again, saying what I think and not what other people want to hear.

  17. I appreciate an honest opinion as much as an opinion that suits me! How would you change it? Leave it yellow?

  18. Lol but I'm right with ya

  19. do you like it! , thats whats important, second on what fig says about the stripe

  20. Yellow, or you could just do smaller panels in carbon wrap, go to eBay where you can get 1.5 mtr x 3 mtr sheets for £26. Top tip for when your doing it, heat the sheet until you think it's going to melt a hole, then shape it, it's far more flexible and resilient then you think.
