Hi there, I have a 748 '97 model and on the way home tonight it has leaked all its petrol out of the breather/overflow pipe which fortunately comes out under the bike! Anyone got any ideas what it could be or had something similar happen. Thanks Jon
Breather pipe goes from bottom of tank to under the fuel cap, close to the hinge, there is then another little pipe (2cm long) that creates a seal around the hole in the cap. Sounds like the pipe going through the tank has split or come off the connector at the bottom. Take the tank off the bike, drain out what little fuel you might have left, flip it over and unbolt the fuel pump assembly. The breather should be connected into it. If not then there is your problem. Ducati 916 Fuel filter change, 748 996 - YouTube Shows the guy changing the fuel filter but you get some idea of where the breather is and how it should be fixed. Might be worth a filter change whilst you're in there.
Hi, yea that pipe does seem to be connected, I should have said it has petrol in now yet it isn't leaking, so I presume it is only when its running and under pressure?
Thanks, I guess the only way is to take the pump out, check the pipes and take it from there. Thanks again!
Yea if its dribbling out of the bottom then its probably going to be via the breather somehow. Sorry you threw me before when you said "all" its petrol had leaked out. Had you just filled up? If it only leaks when the engine is on then open your tank and try to blow down the breather hole. You should have no problems but if its hard to blow (fnarr fnarr) then you might have a breather pipe blockage that would cause a buildup of a vacume in the tank when running which might cause issues. Usually means rough running but you never know.
