  1. Ah, well there you go. The hardener is added to the can and you spray it. Makes sense now. :upyeah: We use 2K at work and it has a workable pot life of about 45 mins before it goes in the bin, I couldn't see how it could be kept in a can. Seems an expensive waste if once the can is activated, you can't reuse it multiple times.

Anyway, the same applies. Dodgy stuff and make sure you take precautions when painting it if you go down that road.

  2. I thought carbon fibre requires some sort of special sealer, are you sure 2k is suitable for cf? Richard from P3 Composites Aprilia RS250 (on FB) might be able to help.
I used couple of times 2k in cans, nothing to worry about we are not talking large quantities of gases here..just make sure you have proper ventilation.

  3. Bought some of this stuff for my track fairings. Obviously not as good as a Wagner spray gun, but not tbh not bad at all.

  4. I'd have just asked a local paint shop to clear coat the parts.

  7. Those top spec disposable masks are usually ok for upto a half hour continuous exposure and then they’re binned. ( Air fed always best, but your talking £200-£600 for pro ones, and only as good as your air supply). Just apply and get out while it flashes off.
Warm the spray can as well as the garage, before you activate it.
Will spray better and less stodgy. Clean tack rag (ones for water base aren’t as greasy/sticky as the cheaper ones and better imo).

  8. Well, I've done it and am still alive (for the moment at least).
In my original post I said it would need one tack and two wet. Wrong. I ended up using the entire can and still could do with more (4 coats on a sprocket cover, 6 on the swingarm cover).
Ended up doing it in the house while the Mrs was out, easier to heat the room up. Lots of clean plastic dust sheets, mask, gloves, safety glasses and leaving the room between coats. Then when it had dried off, opened all the windows full - they were previously cracked and the room has an extractor fan in it which I left running all the time. The last step with the extractor fan was probably to make me feel better as I doubt it made any difference while spraying.
Pics so far on my 748 refresh thread. Got a couple of runs to deal with and the swing arm could do with several more coats as some pinpricks evident (it was thoroughly degreased and wet rubbed down but it was pretty thin in places - these are the problem areas. Depending on how it looks after a polish I may or may not add more lacquer. The sprocket cover has some orange peel to take care of.
