Hi all, Just finished cleaning my 1299 Panigale and preparing for winter storage. However, I used a pressure washer at distance to spray down the bike, then used a bucket of water + brush to do the heavy cleaning. After I did that, I then used the pressure washer again at distance to wash off the soap and a shammy leather to dry it off. So I then started it to let it get up to temperature and dry the rest off, there was the usual steam, but then it got to 40c and then suddenly cut out. Initially I thought it was oil, but the oil is fine. I then started it back up, and it carried on like normal all the way up to 103c before the fan kicked in as it should. I have noticed though, that since then, there is a gurgling sound coming from the tank area, and I'm kind of concerned whether water has gotten into the engine, or into the fuel. Admittedly, the tank is a little low on fuel (but not low enough to trigger the fuel warning light). Is that gurgling sound normal after a run up? Or is it something a bit more troubling? Thank you.
I don't think I can get into the airbox to check. Would water be able to get past the filter into the engine?
So, I just had a look at the oil, and when the bike is level, it seems as though it goes above the maximum marker.. Hmm that can't be good.
Thank you! Though now will be a bit too late, as I don't have the garage space & the light is fading fast.
So, having spoke to the technician, he advised a few heat cycles to boil it off and clear it. So, I'll give that a try and see if that clears it.
Don’t think I’d be happy to run it if the air box is full of water. All it takes is a glug of water into the inlet and you could end up with a bent valve, cracked piston or bend rod. For the sake of removing the tank and cleaning the water out of it, I know what I’d be doing. Quite possible that’s there’s no water in there without being able to see or hear the bike but I’d be having a look before running it for peace of mind.
Yes i agree, I'll be taking a look soon. I did check the oil under torch light, and it was light brown (was recently serviced) and didn't, as far as I could see, any water in the portal glass. The only thing was that when the bike is level, the oil fills the window up way above the maximum mark, is this normal? Also, the oil was a light brown under torch light, again is this normal for fresh oil? Sorry for so many questions, this is my second bike and first italian machine and really concerned that I might have buggered it up.
