So what have you done today..?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by figaro, Mar 17, 2012.

  1. Complained.

My mums car went into VW last month, she complained about braking problems and the car was checked, service carried out and brake fluid changed. Fast forward 600 miles and she had brake failure on the M6 because there was no pad material left at all.

Now asking them how they managed to change the brake fluid and investigate the problems my mum told them about without spotting that the brakes were fucked, and why they issued her with a health check that had the brakes down as green with 8mm of pad left.

The catalogue of s**t excuses and contradictions I was given today doesn't really inspire confidence so waiting for a better grade of answer.

  2. Fair bet discs are scrap as well. Think I'd be wanting a full refund at the very least, seems pretty clear you haven't received the services you paid for.

  3. They've replaced discs, pads and the seized caliper, and only charged for the caliper itself - which I'm fine with as that's a genuine failure out of their control.

But money aside the fact they've submitted paperwork telling her the brakes were fine is appalling.
There's too much to type for the full story but the bloke admitted to me they don't remove the wheels during the free 'health check', and they can't check the brakes properly without removing the wheels. So I said if you know that you can't check properly how come you've put it as green on the 'health check' to say they are ok!? Certainly not acceptable to any customer not just my mum, so they've got some questions to answers on their procedures and the ability of their 'Technicians' before I'm done with them.

  4. This afternoon I did a bit of paperwork that I’d been putting off for a few days, but it was relatively painless, thank goodness.

This evening SWMBO and I went to a Xmas Shopping Event at the village hall. We had a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie and mooched at the stalls of locally produced Xmas gifts.....I bought bugger all but SWMBO bought a few handmade Xmas tree baubles.

Tomorrow I’ve got nothing planned other than I’ll be moving some stuff into my new shed :)

On Saturday we are going to Tommy Banks restaurant near Helmsley with some friends (once voted the best in the world - 2017 I think*). We went last year for my birthday and though it’s a bit expensive at £95 a head plus drinks, the food is absolutely divine! Can’t wait!

*update for 2019.......voted in the top 10 restaurants in Europe apparently.

  5. Along with Soggy by you and @El Toro those were funny suggestions and, considering the rain we’ve had the past few days, very apt.
This one very nearly got a nuke. You and @Harry Bell are just jealous really, I realise that:D:D
Was watching The Crown on Netflix actually. I love the Queen, she’s brilliant.
That thought occurred to me to so I checked, and will check again tomorrow, bloody little feckers!

  6. “...I bought bugger all but SWMBO bought a few handmadeXmas tree baubles.“.

Oh hell why do they do that? When I was growing up, we had the same decorations on the tree every year, it was familiar & we all looked forward to it, nowadays with two women in the house, the tree has to be themed, last year it was a blue theme including new blue lights & a host of new decorations, that’ll never see the light of day again, this year who knows but they’ll be out wasting money on a crap load of new decorations just the same o_O:triumph:

  8. No, no. Encourage the useless spend then you can defend the parts mountain that you will no doubt amass over the next 12 months. Simples. :upyeah:

  9. It’s a disease, honestly they can’t help it. A few years ago they came back with a stylised nativity scene in a wicker basket made out of what can only be described as small offcuts of wood. It was truly horrific but took pride of place in the living room that year. Dunno whatever happened to it, just seemed to go missing the following year

  10. At Ray Petty’s again because Carla is trying to kill me (again). It’s beginning to feel like an abusive relationship now and I’m even starting to make excuses for her, telling myself that this will be the last problem and that part of it is my fault. I’m like a battered husband with Stockholm Syndrome.

Intermittently (once or twice an hour but worse when cold) the engine revs were not dropping and in fact rising dramatically when rolling off. She’s done it before and it turned out to be the excess “tail” of the throttle cable was getting caught in the pulley.

This time it seemed that the throttle cable was sticky and due to the pods and the non-standard bars, not ideally routed and so as it passed over a frame spar, the radius of the bend was a bit sharp. After a clean, a lube and a re-route, the problem seemed to have been sorted out, only to come back again an hour or two later.

Then off to Croydon County Court to collect my MacBook which I had mislaid there the day before.

All in horrendous weather and the final leg of it during rush hour. Just what you need on a bike with a demonic desire to suddenly and unexpectedly give the engine 90 bhp when you are on a mini-roundabout and only asked for 9.

After that I met the girlf at the Bikeshed for a burger and a nosey at “Kenzo”, Ray’s custom Gold Wing build, which last time I saw it only a fortnight ago was in pieces on his workshop floor. The workmanship and attention to detail is absolutely phenomenal and, I think, almost every part except the engine, frame and wheels has been hand made from the reverse brake levers all the way back to the rear light, which isn't a conventional LED but utilises holographic technology. Likewise the speedometer has to be seen to be believed, as it incorporates a breathtakingly beautiful backlit resin cast of a dragon taken from a Japanese jewellery box. Sorry, I know I`m a bit late to the Foggy/boggy/soggy renaming debate and also Snickergate, but the way I see it, it`s never to late to offer good advice.
So here goes........... If you rename it Moggy then that could sort the mouse issue at the same time.

  16. Looks like the Sydney Opera House, imagine grabbing a handful sliding off the ironing board seat and dropping down between the rear wheel and swing arm. Sorry Zhed, a pile of shite !

  17. ^ not my cup of tea either but not a pile of shite is it? I think it’s about a bloke pushing the boundaries which is a good thing. Who knows, some of the ideas these guys come up with may appear on our bikes in the future. Remember the fuss when the original Katana’s came out?
    Just my tuppenth worth.
