I have just had the starter motor on my Multistrada replaced with a new one but reckon the old one would be a useable spare if I could get it stripped, cleaned and have at least the oil seal placed if not the bearings as well. I found a couple of threads on here that went cold and I’ve spoken to a couple of automotive alternator and starter places that don’t do bikes. Anyone found somewhere that services Denso kit in the UK ? Andy
No , but I know a very knowledgeable bloke that can supply the complete brush plate assembly for almost any Denso starter motor . That's pretty much all that's needed for a full overhaul . It's easier than most people imagine , and there really isn't any need for a specialist , just a bit of patience with the reassembly Those things are really well constructed , with high quality bearings . I did mine this summer , with more than 80,000 miles use , and I couldn't feel any bearing play . I spent about £35 and 2 hours work , and most of that went on polishing the copper on the commutator . There was a thread from another member about this .... I'll try to find it later.

Followed the link provided by @ducati dad (thanks) and had a read. It seems a refresh is doable as a DIY job which is good but are you willing to share the name of your ‘knowledgeable bloke’ ? Andy
Yes .... of course ! Forums like this are at their best when folks share tips , skills , experiences and contacts etc ..... His name is Carl and he's a top guy to do business with , and very helpful . These are the details from his invoice :- website : www.repairkitsuk.com email : [email protected] direct sales : www.startermotorkits.com By far the easiest way to order is to get the numbers off the Denso sticker , on the body of the motor , and ideally , send him a photo of the brush plate He told me that Ducati part numbers are no help because they can't be directly cross-referenced to a specific Denso motor .
