I only use my enduro rear brake for holding bike at junctions & scrubbing off speed heeled over (occasionally as its winter). Have you tried vigorously pumping the brake before doing any riding?
The fluid will degrade over time which is why it is recommended to change it every 2 years. I suggest you replace your current fluid with something like Motul 660 and people have found that it is an advantage to undo the rear caliper and hold it above the reservoir as you bleed it. Having bled the caliper and refitted it, use something to hold the foot brake on overnight. Andy
I only took delivery on Saturday, with oil and annual service, would have expected it to be better on such a big bike?
From an authorised Ducati dealer ? We have a 1200 Multistrada, a 748R, a 1098R, a V4 a Diavel and a Scrambler in the family and all the rear brakes work well after I spent time doing as I described. I would be disappointed if your dealer hadn’t done a moisture check on the fluid but it wouldn’t surprise me. Andy
The rear brake in the Diavel and Xdiavel need constant bleeding. It’s well known to dealers. A simple fix is to undo the cap to the rear brake fluid and hang a weight on the rear brake pedal for 24 hours......then tighten up the cap again. And thread moved and title spelling corrected
I have been told that if you change it to a Rizoma it solves the problem all together, any thoughts and if this is the case isn't it a design problem??
..this came from the parts department who now has a full (very nice) Rizoma range.. I changed my brake reservoirs & they never leak.
My 996 had a MOT failure on it's rear brake lever this year, but i said to the tester in my defence i don't use it much & he said that's no excuse son get it fixed.
The reservoir will have no effect on the braking efficiency. Talk to you dealer about your rear brake issue. There has been a technical bulletin about the problem on XDiavel.
There's a new recall, with a fix for this problem: https://www.diavel-forum.com/index.php?/topic/90791-rear-brake-issue-need-new-brake-lines/ It looks like there are new brake lines from Ducati for the rear brake. The TSB is SRV-TSB-19-012.
Thanks for this info, I contacted my dealer and forwarded them your link, and although they have no recall on my bike, they have contacted Ducati and are in the process of ordering the relevant parts and carrying the work out under warranty. One again many thanks....
