For Sale 1198r, Deposit Taken!

Discussion in 'Ducati Bikes For Sale' started by TZ750D, Dec 26, 2019.

  1. I think most people (99%) actually question those bikes at that price! This forum seems a bit of a bubble for values...

I kind of get people adding a premium to old bikes, really old, that are original as they are yers gone by and all that. Just not post 1960.
    Apologies for the thread diversion.

  2. @Exige

Over 7000kms so not in that criteria.
My situation was more akin to West Cork Paul, in that I had lived abroad and brought the bike in.
He however had a 'mare, whereas my import seemed very simple.
I think there are clauses for moving countries with personal effects including vehicles, which come into play, as opposed
to just buying summit from outside Uk.

  5. I am not reseller and not buying to sell for profit so my conscience is clear. but just pulled out paperwork to remind myself mileage as it was some time ago and its actually just over 6k miles so my bad. but 100% no-one come to check the mileage, so you can put whatever you want to put on the registration doc surely?

  6. Aye, it’s probably my own fault for not registering it here as soon as I moved it here. I kinda stuck it in the corner and thought Ill deal with it later:blush: but never did until last year.

  7. Makes sense then, but lying on the form is a serious offence and in the case of a 1000 mile 1198R it could put in question the history and mileage in the future... there will be no record of vat being paid.

  8. Yes the 3 bikes I sold on eBay that were bought by UK buyers were all 40 years old so only 5% duty to pay and no VAT. Rarity + desirability drives value, which is why I bought it. It won't go down in value. New bikes lose money 100% of the time and I got tired of that. Yes its just a 1098R with an ally tank and black wheels. If you want the best price/performance then a 1098R is a better bet, but even then finding one for sale, with 800 miles and no stories, never tracked etc is a challenge. Then again an 1198R is better value than a Desmo, as Yev says. Anyway I'll be retiring in 4 years and moving back to UK (although wife says Spain), so as Stu says, I'll bring it back with no VAT/duty and he can buy it then. We'll just have to see what the going rate is for 800 mile 1198Rs then... :D:upyeah:

  9. I disagree. I have both and even thou they look the same they sound and ride differently. tbh I haven't ridden them much , but when I did 1198 did feel like quite a different bike (maybe was just my exited imagination?)

  10. Yev do you know if the 1198R kit Termi exhaust is different to the 1098R? I think I read somewhere that it was, but not sure. Do you know of any other differences?

  11. they do look totally different

  12. 70mm System I guess is the kit System.

  13. there are quite a few differences. I am sure experts will reply in a minute but I can't remember I am afraid.

  14. You do know in Eire we just make that stuff up on one of them there fandangled computers

  15. According to the 1198R manual, US version was supplied with a separate full system, not slip-ons. I looked at the 1098R manual and no mention of kit exhaust so i assume not included (others will know of course - I never had a 1098R).

  17. When you look at the new price of a V4R & Speciale, I know which bike I would rather have, even after adding all import duties + vat

  19. Really weird that they numbered 1198r’s in US and not in the rest of the world. Mine is unnumbered.
So did they run numbers for US delivery regardless of what number it was off the production line? As they surely didn’t go to USA one after another?

  20. I would love a go on a V4R (not on the roads where i live), but the depreciation on a new one would be hard to swallow for me.
