Radio Stations

  1. I do my cycle training every day in the garage. I listen to a digital radio that is on 5 Live. Around the house, I have either Radio 4 or 5 Live (for football commentaries, mainly).

Both stations are beginning to p1ss me off with the compulsory BBC self-congratulation. Looking for news, current affairs, and sport. I realise that this will probably mean adverts but does anyone have any non-BBC suggestion?

  2. I tend to stick with talk radio , many subjects covered , seemed balanced but no sport , they have the sport headlines on the news tho .

I skip from station to station all day but no more BBC for me , can not bear it now .

  3. It’s probably the turbo trainer that’s pissing you off. I can’t think of anything more tedious and dull than knocking my pan out on one of those for an hour.... Go for a run!

  5. I’ve set up some of those laptop speakers with a big sub for the wife to listen to the Archers omnibus at full whack while she’s on the cross trainer but she’s found a fitness app now so we have an American lady shouting instructions over some pretty heavy Dutch techno. Just connects with a headphone lead thing. You could do the same but stream any old waffly podcast you like.

We got a Roberts 94i internet radio for the kitchen which I like a lot. I can be a real hipster an make porridge to KUSF live from the University of San Francisco.

  6. Just read that you want news, CA and Sport but this might help some folk if they are looking for a change
I listen to Radio 6, it is BBC but they don't push politics just play an eclectic mix of old, new and obscure tunes
The news comes around every hour but that's about it
Heard some old gems of late
Otherwise I'd go for a few Australian radio stations, FBI radio, 2ser, Triple J or Double J

  7. Been listening for about 20 years now. Gets a bit shouty at times though.

  8. For training I can only listen to "Reactivate 10". Nothing else seems to work.

  9. I can barely walk, let alone run! My left leg was f*ck3d, comprehensively (replacement hip, loads of metalwork for smashed femur and tibia. Also, after reading about Andy Murray wearing out his hip, I've given up running in future! However, I can cycle as part of my rehab. The other insurance company paid for an exercise bike as they follow the Rehabilitation Code (although they still deny any liability!). I've got two road bikes but as the weather is wet, cold and dark, I prefer indoor work.

  10. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give Radio 6, Talksport, and Talk Radio.

  11. If you can get out of the house, local swimming pool is great for non impact exercise and most pools also do a watercise class weekly, just to change the view when exercising.

Try also if you have something like an ipod, just bung it on, but push the shuffle button so it's always a song you were not expecting just to keep the music from becoming stale

  12. I've been going swimming every week as part of my rehab. I dislocated both shoulders in the accident. Swimming uncovered a problem with my shoulders that could only be noticed when trying to do front crawl - I can't rotate my arm around my shoulder that you need to do on front crawl. Breast stroke is OK but I can't do front crawl. We think that it is just muscle damage that is mending. I do wonder WTF I did in my accident. I was wearing a Weise bike jacket that limited arm movement, normally. I never saw the jacket again - it was cut off me., apparently. It is mystifying how I dislocated my shoulders (and I broke one, so I'm told). All I got back was one glove, my helmet (Arai but now scrap as it got a bang), and my boots!

  13. What about spinning class? A bit more engaging and quite often some tidy totty to peruse :):upyeah:

  14. I do a lot of indoor training using Zwift over the winter period, its supeb, you will need a smart trainer like the Wahoo Kickr for full benefit. There is no way I could last more than 5mins using a dumb trainer, so boring.

  15. I will investigate!

  16. Would have been easier to buy headphones:p

  17. That's why I listen to the radio. My target is 20 mins - so not that boring.

  18. Chorley FM

  19. FM? I'm only doing digital!
