I'm due to be staying up in Halifax city centre overnight next Thursday 16th Jan. I've never had the pleasure before. Any advice from locals on what to do for entertainment, where to eat, where to drink? On first inspection it doesn't seem too promising :-/
I’d definitely recommend eating at Shibden Mill Inn - http://shibdenmillinn.com/ - it’s a beautiful 17th century inn and the food is excellent!
This place used to be be great - https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Resta...r-Halifax_West_Yorkshire_England.html?m=19905 - but I’ve not been for some time
I’ve not been to Catch in Halifax, but we regularly go to the one in Holmfirth. It’s excellent if you like fish/seafood https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Resta...e-Halifax_West_Yorkshire_England.html?m=19905
LOL ... I’ve spent years working in India, lived most of my youth in Tooting (population about 25% Asian) and went to Uni in Leicester (population about 30% Asian) ... in fact now I think about it, probably the most valuable thing I learnt at Uni was how to make authentic curry - courtesy of private lessons from my next door neighbour in Highfields, Mrs Patel I’m willing to give it a go, but with a nearly 90% white population in Halifax I reckon the odds are stacked against finding a really decent “proper” curry house. In fact it looks like there’s nothing in Halifax that even features in West Yorkshire’s top 30 ... This appears to be about the best nearby https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Resta...a-Halifax_West_Yorkshire_England.html?m=19905 http://www.kashmiriaroma.com/menu.php I’ll report back on what I find, but perhaps I’d be better off getting on the train to Leeds or Bradford
Jesus. Halifax. Last time I went there I woke up next to a munter, hungover to fuck, with about 12 kids it transpired. Fanny like a ripped out fireplace.
Go to the indoor market nice hot food and more. Always an adventure to be had in every town go with an open mind and don’t go determined it’s going to be bad. It’s ok up here colder than Taunton but probably as friendly generally you might be surprised but not best time of year admittedly
Check out Piece Hall. Recently refurbed with no expense spared now populated with a few boutique pubs and eateries. If you get really bored go to Eurika. TB
